My adenium's caudex looks like it is in an akimbo position:

They certainly do grow into some strange shapes.

Here is a comparison between two-- the fat one on the right has just been carefully uncovered. The prune-y looking one on the left was fat and rounded when I dug it from the ground, but suddenly being over-exposed to the air dried it too much. They need to develope a thicker skin!
