Letters to the Editor

By Sharon
November 24, 2011

A successful site is made by the interest and the strength of its members. From time to time I receive from our members letters that are worthy of sharing. Today's letter is from Brenda Savage and on this Thanksgiving Day I'd like to share it with you.

We have much to be thankful for now.

My sweet wife has some very serious health challenges and I care for her around the clock. Our tastes in T.V. differ so she picks the channel and I visit ATP and cubits at all hours of the day and night. I love plants and taking pictures so my son or daughter will come some times and I will visit a nursery with my camera now and also take pictures in my own and friends gardens during good weather. Sharing these pictures and adding some to the data base helps pass my day as does seeing all others pictures and discussions. Finding out an ID is fun. Heartfelt thanks Dave, Trish, and all of you who contribute. You are anonymous friends.

There is much to be grateful for.....Thanks to Dave and Trish for creating this wonderful site for us ( and still allowing us to play on Cubits, as well). Thank you to the many people who have contributed articles, photos, plant IDs, and forum topics for us to all get acquainted (or re-acquainted).

Some of my on-line friends have become friends in real-life...we share plant/seed orders, have lunch together, and meet at plant sales. How wonderful is that???

None of this would have been possible without Dave and Trish. Thank you so much--you have expanded my gardening world in ways that I could not possibly have imagined.

Brenda, my dear friend, your heart is showing. You've written such a luscious, honest piece on our journey and the love and support we give each other and to Dave and Trish and the family we've come to know. Well said.

I remember the very day I met you at my first, and your first, DG swap at Loreen's (R.I.P.). What a treat! My pleasure to know you. We've lost some good friends along the way but there are more good times ahead!

Thank you for this "Thanksgiving offering".

Thanks to you all... for being part of my life. I was thinking that now might be a good time to reach out to our old friends from all parts of this journey, and expand our circle. (That's what I say when I'm with friends and another comes in, and it's time to shuffle chairs around... just expand the circle!).

p.s. Susie, I remember that day, too. I was overwhelmed by how much you all knew, by your graciousness and acceptance of a 'newbie', of the amazing plants I was learning about. And especially, by the spirit of the gardeners. It found me that day. Thank you, my friend.

Brenda your letter brought tears to my eyes and my heart was filled with emotions. My journey started at DG and was a short stay before moving to Cubits. It all has been such an amazing adventure. I really didn't know Dave and Trish until Cubits, but soon came to love and trust them. They have come to feel like family to me.

My life has been a constant widening of the circle, so ATP feels like home to me, with many gardening sisters and brothers present in this wonderful place.

So much to be thankful for, thank you for the letter.

Who could be more grateful than myself, we now have the best of both worlds where we can do our own thing on cubits, as well as get involved in ATP. There was a time I was lost in the woods, waiting for this great gathering once more of like minded friends.

You have said it all so well Brenda, but as I am who I am I can't help but say my own little piece! Hilarious!

I've been a little late coming over to ATP, now the change of season is giving me more time and I am jumping back and forth to both sites! Given more winter time I will also be contributing to the plants database, a fresh start which is even better than before. Not only because of the extra knowledge I have gained, to which I have to attribute a good deal to Dave & Trish for providing DG in the first place, but this site has gleaned all the little or big things which people wanted in a gardening site with Dave & Trish continuing to do their utmost to do what is requested.

For the eternal humanity and generosity which Dave & Trish have shown, we are all so very grateful. Lovey dubby
