Lyle, I really love your MINSTREL'S FIRE seedling, both for the double edge and for that beautiful eye. I don't know what that type of eye is called, but I call it a "blended eye." I think that's my favorite type of eye, where it just seems to bleed in both directions into the next color. All your seedlings are really gorgeous, and I especially love the one you said you might name in honor of your sister. It's totally unique and beautiful -- very dramatic! And I see you finished off with my other favorite -- your sugary confection daylily!

Lyle that SOP X BR the rosie one would be stinning taken to a real ruffled dbl edge or tooth edge.
Never tire of what Mt. Sky produces. How are the blue one doing for Rudy? I have heard blues are the least hardy in colder areas.
Simply adore the 3rd future with that color saturation in the eye and edge. Such a beautiful color. I LOVE that one.
All are beauties but that and the one for your sister really catch my eye.
Betty - You will get plenty of the - I think they call them something like twinkle eyes when you start your program. Here are a couple eyes gone astray
Steph - I'm not sure about the blue ones at Rudy's garden he has a lot of my GOD SAVE THE QUEEN seedlings this year. I may send a few of the blue ones next fall... You will be able to see the seedlings this coming bloom season we are excited with the number he has put in.

Hi Lyle,
I went to your Desert Daylily forum and spent a good hour in heaven. I love all, the seedlings but one really got my attention and I noticed that no one else mentioned it: Kawanza Gold x Florida Garden Lights. That is one amazing picture that you show of it. I love the rusty gold/orange colors. I sure hope that you still have it. I'd love to get a fan of this seedling if you ever decide to sell one. Do you have anymore pictures of it.
OK Lyle, I need to know if you consider "twinkle eyes" to be a bad thing and if hybridizers in general think they're a no-no. Because I just love them, and I love those two seedlings you described as "eyes gone astray". Did you keep those, or have they already gone to the great daylily garden in the sky?

Hi Lyle, It's the first one. I like the second but I love that first one. It has a glow about it when I enlarge it that is just wonderful. The little picture just doesn't do it justice. The enlarged one is one I dream about with it glowing in the light. I have diamond dust on many but not any this dark.
Thanks for responding. I really enjoyed visiting your other forum, Mona
Mick Morry talks about using oranges. He says "In my opinion the most important colour in the world for hybridizing any flower in existence is orange".
Edit: Oops -- I think I meant eye, but I guess a bleeding eye doesn't sound very nice now that I think of it, does it? Reminds me of a James Bond movie! But anyway, I do think it's a fabulous eye!

I remember that one. I loved the color and edge, but yes that eye just squared off. Wish you had taken it to another real rounded eye or given it to Betty
Betty - I never kick myself over composting a seedling, I only kick myself for keeping a seedling too long...Once you start hybridizing you will look back and laugh at some of the daylilies you paid big money for, and wonder why you kept that seedling so long.
I find this interesting what others think of seedlings........this is a typical day in a seedling bed, these seedlings have bloomed for the first time which would you remove, and which would you take another look at?
These were shot around May 2nd so take in consideration possible early bloom season..
