Here I thought we could add Cottage Gardening Resources, such as books, magazines, catalogs, etc. we have found useful in creating our gardens.

It takes more than just plants to create the effect of a Cottage Garden. Hardscape such as arches and arbors, stone paths, birdhouses, birdbaths,
garden ornaments, pickett fences and sheds, to mention but a few!

These two Hardcover editions are so beautiful, my constant companions:

English Cottage Gardens by Ethne Clarke & Clay Perry (Viking Press, 1986)

The Garden Border Book by Mary Keen (Capabilities Books, 1987) This book shows wonderful gardens along with their maps &plant lists.

I believe they may be available for almost a song on www.abebooks.com
( A great place for used books. I have gotten many "used" books that were like new for $1.00 from them.)

As actual books are being replaced by online "Readers", this site should be bursting!

Feel free to add your favorites..

I have relied on 'America's Garden book' for years. It's probably still in print.

Great books, Lucy and Tee!
I need to look at them.
Even though the Internet is a great source of information, there's something about having a book.....

Au contraire, dear Lucy - that's what iPhones are for!

And no, I sure don't!

Of course, anything by the late great Christopher Lloyd is the epitome of the mixed border and English Cottage garden style.
I see his name is not on the cover (it's inside), but he wrote it for the RHS.

This small handbook packs a mean Cottage "punch".

I subscribe to the English Garden & enjoy it very much. I do get a chuckle out of winter planting as of course most, except seeds doesn't work here.

Yes, Lucy.

Really enjoy the advertisements in this magazine.

I am always in awe of their ability to purchase fantastic plants over there, and especially Snowdrops and Grape Hyacinths sold "in the green".

Sure wish ours were sold that way here.
Alot more people would be planting bulbs.

The March/April online newsletter ( not the print issue) of Fine Gardening has Cottage Garden information

http://www.finegardening.com/d...

The print issue has some good articles on Peonie, Spring plant combos and Geums, among others.
