Killing Slugs and Snails

COFFEE KILLS SLUGS & SNAILS. Make very strong caffeinated coffee, then mix it half and half with water and put into a trigger or compressed-air sprayer. Spray on plants and the ground that snails & slugs travel on. As they move over the treated areas, they take up the caffeine through their pseudopod (foot) and it gives them heart attacks in 72 hours. Cheap coffee works as well as the more expensive sort. I use espresso because it's more finely ground (works better in my machine). I also run the water through the grounds more than once to extract as much as possible. Cheers to the University of Hawaii for discovering an elegant and simple solution to nasty critters.

I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown

Think that Dave was planning ahead when he didn't want to do that. Now we have all the things that we wanted on DG. He knew things were happening with DG and cut back request so that DG would not be a total HOTTIE!

This is all IMHO.

I used to have slugs, but rarely see one any more...fact one. I throw my coffee grounds over the edge of the deck into my flower bed every morning....fact two. Never even dreamed that the two things were connected!! Thanks for the great information.

Well, I've had some success against the slugs. I am still not sure if spraying them works very well, they disappear and I don't know if they just left or died. However, putting a couple of inches of coffee grounds in the beds with the biggest problem has made a huge difference. The plants are growing again, I don't see the slime trails, it's wonderful. Thank you so much for the hint.

>> I can't stand to squash them

That's a good reason to have a spray bottle set to "stream" with 1/2 strength ammonia.

It's cheap, great nitrogen fertilizer, sudden death to slugs, and you don't have to wipe slime off your shoes.
