Tee if you want a green colored coneflower get Green Jewel . Almost all the Green Envy I have seen look like pale purple. My Tomato soups also started out orange but turned a nice Red. But for color changing I really like Hot Summer , you get light orange to red flowers all at the same time and it re-flowers without deadheading. So far I would call it the best hybrid Coneflower. For yellow I want to get Summer Breeze.

SongofJoy said:Susan, I wish I had known you were buying seeds for the TN Coneflower. I have plenty I've saved and would have gladly sent you some. Crying
I've got my eye on that PowWow Berry and Green Envy. We've only been here for a little over two years. The coneflowers were planted when we first moved here ... summer of '09.
The yellow one I have is 'Big Sky Sunrise'. It has done wonderfully. Just noticed that I have 'Twilight' rather than 'Sunset'. I tend to get those names confused. Green Grin!

So is that a picture of SUNRISE?
I did not order the TN seeds, I am getting them from a seed swap, I also gave away or traded ten packets of PowWow Berry. I would probaby like more TN seeds because I think I am only getting 10 or so. I can't remember if I did one or two trades. Anyway, My Big Sky Sundown and Tangerine Dream only bloomed once. PowWow Berry and PowWow White were great and Red kneehigh was OK, it faded pretty bad but I think they do better with a little shade. My bed was full sun all day long. Maui Sunshine only bloomed once also. Save me some of the Tennessee and next year you will get some PowWow Berry if you would like some.

Susan if the hybrid Echinacea you are getting are first year plants it is recommended that you do not let them flower their first year. It is ok with seed varieties like Pow Wow.

Indeed, I am. Or so I've heard.

I think they tell you not to let them bloom in order to allow the root system to fully establish before carrying the burden of flowering and going to seed.

E. paradoxa is a faithful boomer and slowly expanding. I like the leaves on it, too (although the ones you see in this picture are from other Echinaceas).

Did you grow those from seed or buy it. I just planted some for winter sowing. I hope I can get some yellow flowers from them, but if I don't I have plenty of Rudbeckia as a back up. Green Grin!

Mmm - came as a plant. I haven't tried the seeds. Last summer was its second year and I probably got about 4 blooms out of it, as opposed to one the first year. It's also in a part shade situation.

I'm trying to collect more acorns (by adding to the database) for the raffle that Dave is going to have,

The thread "Would you all be interested in a raffle using acorns to buy tickets?" in Site Talk forum

I'll add more photos as soon as it's ended. Thumbs up

Yes, Susan, that's Big Sky 'Sunrise'. Sorry for the confusion. I love that one ... it has performed spectacularly for me. It is more of a banana yellow color. Lovey dubby

SongofJoy They looked a little bleached or is it because of the bright sun? They look very healthy! Nice clump there, how long have they been growing? Do they start off yellow then fade?

Marilyn Has Dave decided how many acorns the raffle tickets will cost? I have enough acorns, Earn what you can and if you run short let me know. What is the deadline for the purchase of the tickets?

Bob Great article, it's a keeper! I will be sure to prune my new first year plants. I do remember reading that this makes them stronger so they will make it through winter. I did prune a couple. I feel like I am in the dark right now because I don't know which ones will come back. Live and learn right?

Sheryl Very nice flower, it looks like it would blend in nicely with the other wildflowers. If mine do not come out right I will order one. Where did you get yours? Did you add it to the DB?

Susan, it's the bright sun. I forgot to stand where my shadow was cast on the plant. (I'm not as good a photographer as Sheryl and Bob and the others, I don't think.) My gardens are 90% full sun. Those Cones have taken a lickin' and keep on tickin'. That picture is third season. They are not as deep a yellow as some to begin with.

Sheryl, try taking your pictures in the early morning or evening, that's the secret. Your photos are just fine, except the sun thing I mean. I really am impressed with it, I know coneflowers love sun and good drainage. I have 90% sun also in my back yard. The bed I have them in has not very good drainage so I might be moving them in spring and plant them along with the new ones in another bed. Whistling I have read several time in the past year about coneflowers suddenly dying after a heavy rain. So the drainage is very important and they are drought tolerant anyway, some people kill them with kindness. Hilarious!

I'm sorry, I don't know why I keep getting names wrong. A few days ago I called someone Bob, and her name was Sheryl also. SMH Whistling
Please don't use this as an excuse to change your name like the other lady, she likes to be called 'Bob' now, all of a sudden I mean. So when I post a question to the real Bob, I get two answers, it's kinda confusing.
