Nice. That's a great name, Royal Star & Garter. There is an expression that used to be used a lot around here, "Oh my stars and garters". I've got to go explore that. Now it's a rose. What color?

Now I'll have to explore those roses... Whistling

The pink is really pretty on that one, Janice. Big Grin

Shaking the Morels really does work if conditions are right. I have an area in my shadier gardens that had received a lot of compost, leaf mold and used peat; I shook some over the area and had a few Morels show up there the next Spring. I haven't seen any since in that spot, however....just a lucky roll of the dice, I expect.

I would guess that you'd have to shake them every year... ? Or perhaps the conditions changed?

I wonder if they grow down here. I've only seen them in Michigan.

I would imagine that I disturbed the soil in just the wrong places. I think that's probably the reason they aren't cultivated as a cash crop much, if at all.

Morels are known as "hickory chickens" in KY so maybe they do get this far south into TN. They grow in MO. Green Grin!

Well, yes indeed, "they" tell me. The gray morels grow all over TN. Just gotta be able to tell them from the poisonous wild 'shrooms. Glare

One of the pages I stumbled on said that they tend to pop up prolifically after a fire, Chelle - so just set your shade area on fire, that should do it.... Whistling

Rolling on the floor laughing

Actually, that makes a lot of sense - it would open the *ground-floor* a bit, without dropping the spores too deeply like weeding would do. Just an idle thought.....'cause I'm not setting my garden on fire! Hilarious! It would probably germinate every sleeping weed seed in there!

I finally made it back on line after last weeks snow
Wanted to post my garden in snow but found November thread locked
We got 5+ inches in 5 hours lost a large pine in the barn lot, and several branches the size of trees over the drive.
Power on and off for two days
Snow melted in three days but my internet service took 7 Grumbling

So much to catch up on.

Thumb of 2011-12-06/gardengus/0aab27
I found these this spring at a local garden center, under their pines, they did not know what they were so I got them .

Hey, Cinda! *Waving*

Glad you're back!!! Get your tree mess cut up yet? Ours is about 2/3 done. Once that big snow melted we found more. New snow last night?

[I finally bought some badges....pretty, huh?]

Out to plant more bulbs momentarily....I think there's one spot on the hill that might not be water-logged. Rolling my eyes.

Thanks , glad to be back

sorry the morels are all gone , they don't last long here.
Some years my Mom finds enough to dry and we have them for a Christmas treat Smiling

The guys have been to busy to get out there, and I don't do chainsaw Sticking tongue out and I think we have only had one day with no rain.
The goats will eat the green off the white pines , good source of vitamin C in the winter.
