It is 76 delightful degrees outside, partly cloudy with a gentle, refreshing breeze out of the north. All of the neighbors are out stringing Christmas lights in their front yards except one. This clown is building an insulated hut around a mango tree in his back yard and stuffing the Christmas lights inside of it. There is always one in every neighborhood. Shrug! Pics later.

A strong cold front is currently moving through the area. I woke up this morning to 68 degrees and will wake up tomorrow to 46 they say. A northwestern wind began to blow abour 3:00 PM, followed by wind whipped rain and now gusty winds are blowing from the north. I closed the lanai windows and it is maintaining a comfortable 70 degrees out there. What a blessing the new greenhouse is becoming.

About an hour before the front arrived, I took a walk around the garden and this is what I found:

This is red firespike and yellow thryallis along the west side of the house.

The thornless bougainvillea over in the purple garden is a fast grower. I got it in a 4 inch pot from Logee's.

I love this Curly-Cue copper leaf. It has grown to over 7 feet tall but a winter frost usually knocks it back.
Thumb of 2011-12-07/hawkarica/c22cbb

Here are the little huts I am building around the mango and leachee trees. At the first warning of frost, I will throw a big sheet of frost cloth over the top and clamp it to the top of these walls. Christmas tree lights are inside and all set to turn on for heat.

Finally, this is a garden I have just finished. I encorporated 4 palms, a tangelo tree, a cycad (cardboard palm), a couple of large iochroma bushes, some golden mound duranta and other stuff to make a long garden along the property line. The main purpose to to block invading grasses and weeds from moving into my yard. I assume we all have a neighbor like this clown. Angry

Janice, if you are talking about the last picture, the yellow is a shrub called golden duranta or golden mound. Those are not flowers, just the leaves. It makes a great hedge.

Janice, that is the 'Winter Cassia' or Senna bicapsularis. I posted it last month and you liked it then as well. It still has lots of blooms although not like before.
