I harvested my lavender and tied it in small bundles with rubberbands, threw it in a big basket and set it on a table at a meeting for folks to take for free along with some information about the many uses of lavender. My car smelled wonderful. I was really surprised, everyone went crazy for the lavender.

Tossed a bundle of lavender into my purse to carry to work. One stalk slid down into a side pocket, found it weeks later (yeah, I don't clean it out often). Still fragrant. Fun stuff. Thumbs up

I'm just getting my lavender patch going. Love love the smell!

My best selling soap is the lavender, and many people buy the sample size just to keep in their car for scent. I wouldn't have thought about it, but t sure does work. Rolling on the floor laughing

SongofJoy--I've successfully grown fennel in large pots. I have 6 florence fennel plants in a container that's about 16" in diameter, and they're doing beautifully. Our soil is so clay-heavy here, I think they prefer the looser potting mix in the containers.

Thanks for the info, mom2goldens. Yes, heavy clay soil ... sigh! Crying I am going to try the fennel in pots then. I love that stuff. Big Grin

I am clayey and alkiline. I built a raised herb/veggie bed which is divided into mini beds where I amend the soil for each herbs needs but I think containers are the answer for many herbs that need 'rich, moist loam'. Isn't that just the biggest hoot to read on a seed pack? Is there anyone in the universe who has 'rich moist loam' to start with? Rolling on the floor laughing

yup. someone who built their house in a swamp...but then they're dealing with so many skeeters they can't garden that lovely soil!

Thanks for the link, Dahlia! Though I'm not sure I want to be inspiring any boogling...

Lee Anne, my house is on old marshland and the soil is almost pure sand. We still have the skeeters, though! There's just no winning.

I do grow quite a few herbs in large containers... don't have any questions at the moment, but I'll be sticking around here.
