I let the cats outside in their pen and picked up sticks and doggie poo. Got sunshine for the "last" nice day. So loved it.

50 yesterday, 50 today or so they say.
Then tonight winter storm watch. Originally they were predicting 2-4 inches of snow on Thursday for our area. Now its up to a possible 8+ inches. We don't get our snow at Christmas now we're going to get the whole kit and caboodle in one day! I have never seen such strange weather as we have had the past almost year.

We got the snow and the pavement was still warm and melted the snow. Sudden drastic drop in temps and the wet pavement turned to ice then covered with about an inch of snow. Salt trucks decided not to pre treat so rush hour here was a mess and all of the schools were closed as well.

We got a total of 6 inches on Thursday. The sun is shining brightly today and the glare off the snow hurts the eyes. It is pretty though.

No rain here, but some crazy weather patterns. The past few days have been very warm. In the 50s and 60s. Tonight is suppose to start a cold trend for a couple of days. Night temps as low as 19* and daytime in the low to mid 40s. Then it will climb back into the 50s and 60s again by the weekend.

I let my house hens outside again after bringing them in last night. I fact I put all the dogs and cats outside for the day too. Just too nice a day to be in the house. They're all back inside now tho. The hens all roosted in one low hanging basket so catching them was really easy tonight.

I need to go package ane freeze the 20# of chicken leg quarters I bought today after work. I've been waiting for weeks for the price to drop from 79 cents a # to 59 cents a #. They come in 10# bags, frozen solid so they have to be thawed a bit just to be able to separate them.

GOD bless and keep each of you.

Leaflady, I like that kind of a bargain. Recently I got bone in chicken breasts at a great price. My husband and I enjoy boneless chicken breast with skin on for grilling. Can't buy it like that in the stores anymore so I bought 4 of the chicken breasts and came home and got online to figure out how to cut the breasts and remove the bones. I found instructions on you tube and followed them and am pretty proud of myself!

I spoke to soon on the rain. We got a gully washer about 8:30 or so. Lots of lightening and thunder. I don't have a rain gauge so I don't know how much but it was hard for quite a while. The ground is so dry it soaked up every drop except in the drive. That indicates about an inch I think.

It is bitter cold outside today. None of the animals want out for long. The sun is shining tho and the sky is clear.

Fileting out a chicken is easy. Almost any animal is. Just use a very sharp thin blade knife and follow the bone. Cut it loose at each end. I'm certain that years of experience with several types of critters helps a lot. rolleyes: I see little if any sense in wasting freezer space on bones. I didn't debone the leg quarters tho as I like to hold onto the bones while eating the chicken. I wrapped each piece in plastic wrap, then put the pieces into ZipLock vacuum bags and pulled out the air. Little chance of freezer burn that way.

GOD bless and keep each of you.

Leaflady, I have no experience when it comes to fileting anything so I was quiet pleased with myself Green Grin! however I think I need a sharper knife, had some difficulty but I was determined to make it happen and I did. I will try it again if the right price comes along. Double wrapping stuff is a great idea for eliminating freezer burn and I try to do it whenever I buy meat on sell. You and me will get along well Smiling

Well, it's certainly cold here this morning. We had snow most of the day yesterday, but hardly any on the ground, LOL!

January is already over half over. I wonder if we'll have another January thaw which is usually around now. In February we usually have a blizzard.

Maridell,
Awesome on the fileting! I am not good at cutting up a chicken, but at least I never seriously cut myself.

Leaflady,
Awesome on the bargains! I wait for the whole chickens to go on sale, pick the biggest ones and stew them. Then I can the broth, or broth with meat. Chicken soup in the winter is the best!

A also buy the bags of frozen chicken already cut up. Wings are my favorite and DH likes the thighs.
