PHANS of PHIL the PHEASANT starts at approximately post #20.
Have fun getting to know this guy!

I found a new bird at my bird bath today. It looked like a slightly bigger finch with a black head and cowell, white feathers along the outside of a longish tail, body mostly shades of gray. I took a pic from distance as it sat in my lime tree drying off. Will download tomorrow. Trying to find the name I ran across this site. If you're interested in birds in the area it might be interesting. Still haven't found the name of my new bird, however. Shrug!

He's pretty far south for a "Utah Bird"... maybe he's a "snowbird"? Green Grin!

Green Grin!

This is a little chubby bird I painted in Austin Texas as part of a garden of Eden mural for a young girl.

Nice! My calendar this year has hummingbirds. It's nice to look up and see them. I also see the real thing outside. Wish I still had flowers for them...the few left after the freezes aren't hummingbird favorites. But at least, there's the feeder!

I saw the Dark Eyed Junco AND MATE again in my yard today. Took a pic but too small to really see.

Susie here is a photo of several Juncos, it shows the variations in color. The one in the upper left corner is a Slate-colored Junco. There are times in the early spring when we have about a hundred of them in the yard. Big Grin

Margaret! Funny!!!!!! This is the only male I've ever seen ever. The female hangs around too. I imagine they'll head north soon.

I don't know Susie, it's still pretty cold here, 36F today. I wonder how long it takes them to arrive here from the south. Shrug!

We get swarms of those little cuties here, year round. When they perch in the cold, all fluffed up, they're almost perfectly round. Smiling

I guess they are the original version of our "Snowbirds".... heading south for a respite from the cold. They'll head up north when appropriate. I just thought it odd to see them. I'm always on the lookout for new birdies in my area. I've seen only one male Cardinal and one male Western Tanager in 18 years. Guess I don't get out much!

(the Cardinals are found in multitudes just 25 minutes from my house... but not AT my house except for one guy a few years ago. )

Hehe! I have male cardinals galore these days...I was just noticing today how most of the cardinals I am seeing are males! Nice juncos...those would be a welcome sight!
