I finally located these pictures in my messy folders...I should have said that my daughter found them. They were taken at Lindon Nursery, Lindon Utah in 2009 but they have similar ones each year. Here is one to wet your appetite....more tomorrow if any one is interested.

Paul, in your first photo, what is that wonderful little blue/purple, fan shaped flower? What a sweet bloom.
Those baskets are amazing.
Dare I even try to do one of those? Or would I just kill it?
I did keep a container of several coleus, looking very nice, all summer. Killing frost finally got it.
I am going to try one, only on a smaller scale. Hurray!

Common name is 'fan flower'. It is Scaevola aerauca. It is commonly used in baskets here and comes in several colors. Google fan flower to have a look. I think one main reason these baskets are so successful is that they are on a good drip irrigation system..

What a wonderful flower. I see it would be considered an annual for my growing zone.
Thanks Paul.

Lynn, you should be able to find Fan Flower locally, maybe at Al's Garden Center. I believe it is considered a premium annual around here. It is really nice in baskets and planters.

For the past couple of years I have been buying premium lobelia for my baskets. At $2.50 each (for starts) they are kind of spendy but they grow way bigger and better than the seed grown types.

I just can't believe I hadn't noticed them before. I go to Al's every spring. I will definitely look for Fan Flower when I go this coming spring.
Thanks Connie.
