Some of you may have heard we had a fire in our greenhouse this Feb, the plants that didn't burn had to sit out in the cold for half a day while I moved boxes in our storage area to make room for them. Then the plants had to be in an unheated basement until April. I was amazed anything survived!
I'm one of "those" plant people that never throw out a plant or a pot until I'm really, really, sure they're dead. I'm glad I let this plumie sit around, it came back from the dead! You can see the pot deformed a bit at the top- that's where it melted in the fire. Most of my plumies were right above the fire and had their pots burnt off and soil on fire.

so, never give up on your Plumies- they are tough plants!

very interesting... I'm of the belief that you can't get the plumerias roots too hot for them... they do well sitting on the hot roof top in a small pot... the roof temperatures will often get to be 165*F... In Nicaragua they grow as the last large vegtation going up the sides of the active volcanos... bathed in hot sulpher gasses.. their roots going down in the ground above what is an open caldron of lava.. they thrive naturally in such conditions.. and in great health.. OH.. one of the resorts vsited I believe in Panama... they would routinely burn off excess vegtation around the resort... plumeras were planted around and the fires would burn everything around them.. up to the trunks of the trees... and havng burnt the scrub away.. the fires would go out... the trunks would show the ..fire damage but would be relatvely unaffected...
well flower pictures at some point from NYC I hope
