Happy New Year. Again!
How many New Years have we all been together? I think it's about 7 years for me including DG, Cubits and now landing safely at All Things Plants. Phew! Fun and I've learned so much, made some life long friends and saved or killed lots of plants in this wild, wild rough and tumble desert. Gardening in San Francisco was MUCH easier.

2012 is the Chinese year of the Dragon, the only symbol in the Chinese zodiac that is not real. And the most respected.

I hope it's an awesome and positive force that brings all of us a new found happiness and liberty that's carefree and filled with success and good health!

Any predictions you'd like to share?

Oh, I don't want to live in a world where dragons aren't real....I'm sure they can be found somewhere. Wikipedia confirms it....Quoting wiki...
"They were created by Morgoth during the First Age when Glaurung, the first dragon, appears."

Sherry, I didn't check the origin of the creators... Are they from what we know as Eastern Europe? Europe? Who is Morgrath? Nevertheless, does that mean the Chinese knowledge of 'dragon' is a European import? My understanding is the Chinese astrology dragon is a combo of many animals.. tigers, fish, snakes, rats etc. The MOST powerful of signs. People born in Dragon are the "git 'er done" people, power, accomplishment.

Yes, I will admit to killing my share of plants this year.... though I must admit I have a helper. Lexie the Standard Poodle has claimed the garden. I have now found the value of container gardening. She has a path through the garden that has taken out the geraniums, creeping jenny, even violets, volunteer cyclamen, around the canna and maple tree. She's trampled some daylilies but I hope they'll be OK.... so... yes, container gardening. Oh ... and the pristine winter rye lawn is ... well.... you know... spotted. I need an acre.

"The origin of Chinese dragons is unknown, but certainly predates written history." Different from Tolkien's dragons of Middle Earth...however, I hope to see one someday in either form....who knows?
