Anja from Germany gave us a link over in the Irises Cubit that led to the Mid-America Garden 2012 introductions pages from their upcoming catalog. Thank you Anja! Here is the direct link:

http://www.iris-bulbeuses.org/...

I've posted some pictures over there that I have of eight of their TB introductions, and I'll post them here later. And Kent has also posted three pictures over there, so if anyone wants to see them all right away please check out the Black 2012 Introductions thread in the Irises Cubit.

Also, I note that they've held their prices at $50 for the TB's, which I think is fantastic!

Polly, I printed them out and I've poured over them and made my preliminary list: DARING DECEPTION, BABY I LOVE YOU, FEAST OF KINGS, FLAMINGO FRENZY, RUMOR HAS IT, STRAWBERRY FREEZE, WICKED GOOD and WILD. Now I just have to see whether they will still have their discount program for new introductions and I might have to whittle down my list.

I commented over in the Irises Cubit that I just noticed that the BONUS irises are missing from the TB introduction pages, so they either still have to add them or maybe they're making some changes this year -- sure hope not!

I hope not too.

When I saw Flamingo Frenzy I said, that's a Betty iris.

Yes, believe it or not, that is cutting back for me. I usually order about 25 rhizomes from Mid-America each year, and this year I'm definitely planning to hold it to about ten. They're just going to be mostly introductions with maybe one or two non--introductions. In the past, though, they've had a discount program on introductions that I took advantage of, and I would always get a 25% discount if I purchased between six and ten intros. So eight introductions ($400) would actually cost $300 after the discount. But if they don't have that this year I'll have to trim my order to probably five or six intros instead of eight. So i'm REALLY hoping they still have that discount program again this year.

I have pictures that I took in May 2009 and 2010 of eight of the new Mid-America TB's. I was there too late to get pictures of any of the medians, though, unfortunately. In late May of 2009 the temps were in the 90's, and in late May of 2010 it rained almost the entire time and was in the mid-50's.

BABY I LOVE YOU - I am so glad this is being introduced because back in 2009 Paul Black was doubtful it would be because it wasn't a heavy bloomer. But I thought it was spectacular and plan to order it!

CLAIM TO FAME - Another beauty, but these were taken in 2010 when they were totally soaked. Kent has a much better picture of this iris over in the Black 2012 Introductions thread in the Irises Cubit.

DARING DECEPTION (On the front cover of their catalog) - Another must-have for me! Hopefully you will get increasing discounts the more new introductions you order!

FEAST OF KINGS - Love this great color!

FLYING FIRST CLASS -- Another wowser!

INSANIAC - Love it!

NAME GAME

PRINCESS GRACE - Pictures taken at the Brooks Iris Show in May 2010 - Sorry for the poor quality.

Well, I just prepared my Mid-America order for mailing tomorrow, and I ended up selecting seven new introductions (with a 25% discount!): BABY I LOVE YOU, DARING DECEPTION, FLAMINGO FRENZY, RUMOR HAS IT, STRAWBERRY FREEZE, WICKED GOOD, and the Border Bearded introduction WILD.

Then I ended up ordering about a dozen others from their general section. They have discontinued their Bonus Program, but in their message at the end of the catalog they indicated they will be giving bonus plants from this year's new introductions and other recent Mid-America introductions based on the size of the order. And they said that suggestions for gift plants are welcome -- so I sent them a list of 28 new and recent introductions (back as far as 2007 with INK PATTERNS) and indicated I would be thrilled to receive any of them as a gift plant! What a brazen hussy I am!!!

EDIT: They also have a second website that is currently under development for online ordering, and I suspect it will be updated and ready within the next couple of weeks:

http://www.beardedirisflowers....

I should note that some of the prices of the irises I checked on that new website were a little higher than the prices of the same irises in the new catalog, though, so I suspect the prices need updating on that website. Paul Black has retired, although he will still handle international orders and will continue to prepare that fabulous catalog -- and he will still be doing the hybridizing and they will continue to carry his introductions. YEA! It's a win-win!

Just checked the new website again, and here is an example of the difference in listed prices:

MERRY AMIGO (Blyth 09)

New Website Price Listed: $36.00
Price in Catalog: $20.00

Quite a difference! The new website will give you a great idea of what their offerings are this year, but if anyone wants to check prices I can check for you until you get your catalog.

OM gosh, Cindy, you sound desperate.

Here's the website. I would email them, and ask if that one will be available this year. It was not last year, but they might have an extra laying around. Also ask them how to get a copy of their catalogue, and I bet they will send it for free. Pretty good guys.

Oops, sorry, I see it's a new intro this year, so of course they have it. I would still email them about a catalogue. Or if you want to pay now to get the catalogue, you need to do it by snail mail, and it's 6.00.

Actually, in their catalog they list a new email address:

[email protected]

I know when I first requested a catalog from them, they sent me one without charging. That may have changed, but if you indicate you're interested in BABY I LOVE YOU they might just send one right out to you at no cost.

I don't know if you've seen it, but the link in the first post on this thread shows the New Introductions portion of their catalog. Hope you can get one soon -- their catalog is an absolute work of art!

I had emailed them about an iris and asked for a catalogue and got it free too, and I've been getting one ever since, even if I don't order the year before. It may be deductible anyway, and if you're going to order no big deal. It is worth 6.00 for sure.

I got the Mid America Catalog in the mail yesterday. I especially like COOL MIST and DANCING GHOST and also that yellow YIELD. No room here for anything new so I am not buying. But they sure are pretty.
