Joanne..can we discuss when to move your Wintesown plants to the flowerbed or containers. I keep hearing various times and instructions..but not sure if I understand it fully. I know that you should not set the seedlings out until the soil gets warm and there's no chance of a frost. Here in our part of Maryland, I believe that might be around May 7-10 but some years the weather got warm and stayed warm before that date. Last year, it rained most of the month of June and I almost lost a lot of my starter plants. I've read to set your seedlings out when they get their second set of leaves. Will you explain this more in detail? And if you have a photo to add of seedlings you are ready to plant in the garden and what they look like, that would be helpful to me and I'm sure other new Wintersowers. May seem like a stupid question to experienced Wintersowers but until a newbie gets enough confidence in a new project, it is not stupid to them. Once the seedlings are planted in the flowerbeds, what care is needed to make sure they get a good start? How do you make sure squirrels don't dig them up or Bambi or Peter Rabbit doesn't add them to their buffet? I'm about ready to buy or make myself a sling shot and sit and watch for the squirrels that keep digging in my flowerbeds. I pulled some information off the internet the other night about home made concoctions that I can make using ingredients I already have around the house and in the pantry. I sprayed Liquid Fence one day last week but then it rained all weekend, now I have to respray but first need to make a trip to HD for more Liquid Fence, plus more MG potting mix so I can finish my WS.
