These bushes can grow very tall, and leggy, in the garden but I have mine growing in a large pot. I prune it back by about half during winter and now it is covered in new growth and flowers. I've done the same for about 5 years and it's thriving with morning sun and afternoon shade. Being in a pot means I can control the size and also move it if we happen to get a frost. This doesn't happen too often here in my part of Australia, but it does happen.
