I recently joined the site and wanted to give a quick intro. I heard Dave's interview while catching up on Diego Footer's podcast, which got me interested in this site. I have been having a lot of fun digging around all the information here. I also have been listening to a lot of the All the Things Plants podcast while shoveling out from the cyclone bomb here in Massachusetts. I honestly don't mind hearing about the long Texas growing season while shoveling snow.
Our home is on a steep hill and our back yard is a three story, tiered affair. Since we have planted for privacy, most of the ground layer is planted for shade and part shade now that the canopy has grown out on our little 1/10 acre lot. We recently bought seven acres that is a seven minute drive from our home in town. We will eventually build a home there, but for now I am slowly reclaiming land that has been neglected for a long period of time. For now there are is just a driveway, and some out buildings.
I built a large hugel bed last season, and after a couple of seasons of work have two large chunks of field ready to plant. I am interested in permaculture, and growing medicinal herbs and vegetables although I love all things plants.
Thanks for the great site, and I have been convinced to dive into winter sowing thanks to garden.org.
