Can't you just add a comment about thorns? I'd hate to go back through 5,000+ roses to add thorns to them. It can't be done on a blanket basis because some roses don't have thorns.
I never knew some roses don't have thorns. Thanks Zuzu for teaching me something I didn't know I didn't know.

There are quite a few, Ann, and I've noted "Thornless" or "Almost thornless" on the "Comments" line of each of them in the rose database, so you should be able to run a search for them. You can also ask for recommendations of thornless roses in the Rose Forum. They're indispensable for areas where children and other sensitive individuals will be spending a lot of time in the garden.

How about for all plants Dave. It seems it would be good info. to know.

Dave, can you make all the Bougainvillea marked as thorned? I am not 100% positive someone hasn't come up with a variety without thorns but I have never seen nor heard of one without thorns.
If someone comes up with a variety which does not have thorns then when they enter the data they can edit the thorns out.
What do you think?

Leave it to the Super Sleuth to know such! I'm glad Janet ~~~ is that the only one? If so, then we can just go change that one only.
Good sleuthing Janet.

It may not be totally thornless, but near enough not to call it thorned.
Most bougainvilleas have spiny thorns, but some of the newer varieties are nearly thornless or have such insignificant thorns that they are not a hazard.

So now I have a dilemma: There are more than 5,000 rose entries. A few hundred of these have no thorns. Should I ask Dave to enter the "thorned" option for all of them and then find those few hundred and remove the checkmark, or should I just ignore the field and assume that people know most roses have thorns?
