We came from here
The thread "Happy New Year- our Orchid blooms in January 2012" in Orchids forum
Let's start the new month and post away!

Rhyncholaelia glauca opened the first bloom of the season. The flower has a very pretty scent at sundown.

Lc. Mary Elizabeth Bohn 'Royal Flare' is showing off some more. It's full sun for this one or it produces floppy growth.

Great start! How old is your Rhyncholaelia? I'm asking because I got a tiny one last summer that is putting out a new growth of some kind.

Carol, I bought it around 2003, it bloomed in 2005 for the first time for me. It was still a small plant then, here is a pic from 2005.

I think you could consider that Rhyncholaelia glauca a specimen plant now. It looks so big and beautiful. Good growing, Ursula! Also great color on the Ascocentrum. I don't think any of my Vanda types are in spike now. Phals and Dens are spiking for me at the moment.

Bree, both are beauties but I am especially fond of the Claudebec cross.

Specimen you say.... thanks! Smiling
About the C. Caudebec x Lulu - it is registered/ listed as Cattleya Caudabec Candy, but perhaps that might be C. Caudebec Candy. ( e instead of a) . Kathy might be able to look it up for us?

Oops. There was either an error on the photos in OrchidWiz or there is a C. Caudebec 'Candy' that isn't a cross. I did the cross now and it is C.Caudabec Candy with an a, as you originally posted.

Hey can someone tell me what came first Cattleya Aclandiae, C. Lulu or C. Caudebec, which is the cross of which? Surely at least ones in the others.
I think my orchids C. Caudebec x Lulu but a friend keeps saying 'its just like Aclandiae' which is in this cross somewhere isn't it? thanks!

Cattleya aclandiae is a species, not a hybrid. One needs to look at the whole picture to see if and at what point aclandiae enters into the parentage.

Cattleya Caudabec Candy is Caudebec x Cattleya Lulu as I gave already above
http://apps.rhs.org.uk/horticu...

Cattleya Lulu is C. Brabantiae x Penny Kuroda
http://apps.rhs.org.uk/horticu...

Cattleya Brabantiae is aclandiae x loddigesii
http://apps.rhs.org.uk/horticu...

Cattleya Caudebec is Cattleya Sophia Martin x Cattleya Penny Kuroda.
http://apps.rhs.org.uk/horticu...

Now the parentage of Penny Kuroda is easily tracked:
http://www.orchid.or.jp/orchid...

Tracking Cattleya Sophia Martin:
http://apps.rhs.org.uk/horticu...
C. guttata x C. Summer Stars

Summer Stars is:
http://apps.rhs.org.uk/horticu...
and so on, you can track backwards until you come to the primary cross.
