I have 2 varieties that have bloomed in February before ('Rijnveld's Early Sensation' and, appropriately enough, 'February Gold').

But I never imagined I'd see a January daffodil bloom in Maryland!

I ran out for a photo just before the sun went down.

Rinjveld's (VERY) Early Sensation

Has the recent warm spell brought surprises for anybody else?

Very nice surprise. I am close to having a clump of Rijnveld's Early Sensation bloom here on Nantucket which is way earlier than usual. We have had virtually no cold weather. Patti

Joyanna and I found a few of her crocuses blooming in the front lawn, too! She knew what to do -- take off her shoes and dance among them! Lovey dubby

Nice pic of RES. I've got a few crocus Yellow Mammoth, and hyacinth Jan Bos starting to bloom. The daffs haven't started yet, but lots of buds are up.

I'm glad Joyanna gives me an excuse for barefoot dancing. Before she came along, the neighbors just thought I was nuts. Whistling

This mild winter is also giving us an early taste of spring flowers...daffodils and hyacinths starting to wake up Smiling I guess compared to last year, blooms started mid Feb; this year they started to come out first week of January.

Today in the yard (sorry about the blur) ...

I have 10 or 12 clumps of daffs already up out there and many are preparing to bloom.

Spring show sure is starting early this year! Hope there are no hard freezes, especially if fruit trees have started budding out also.

We've had a very mild winter (temps in the 60's last week!) and a gentle rain on Friday. Today the bulbs are poking up everywhere. I hope they don't get nipped.

Many of my bulbs are appearing already, due to a very mild winter.
I was so excited to see some of the new bulbs I planted last fall coming up.
Here is Narcissus Tete a Tete's little leaves poking through the soil. Hurray!

What a cutie, Tarev! Is that growing in a window box type container? I tried a few daffodils in big pots left outside, not sure how that will work out, but my fingers are crossed. I wasn't sure about putting them in something smaller like a window box, but if that worked it would be great!

Here's the first crocus bloom in front (taken 2/1). So far that's the only kind that's opened, but there are a few of the same in the back, also.
