When I am on the auction, I have no problem spending up to $1 a seed, if it's a cross I really want. Last year, I purchased a lot on the Day Lily Auction. But this year I only bid on a few, and only won a couple. Some of the really popular ones seem to be going for a lot more money on the LA this year. ~Jan

Ha. That's why I hate auctions. Hilarious! I don't mind paying for what I want, but I just hate auctions!

I ended up paying about $4-$5 per seed when I purchased some on the Lily Auction that were pretty exciting crosses out of toothy daylillies I realized I would never own, and I was looking just the other day and I have gotten 100% little seedlings out of some of the best crosses -- so I would do it again.

I'm talking about crosses like RELEVANT GRAFFITO X WICKEDLY WILD AND WONDERFUL, LEMON RASPBERRY DELIGHT X FOREVER KNIGHT, and FABULOUS BLACK PEARL X CASPER'S REVENGE.

That's great Woofie, Thumbs up I bet you can hardly wait to get those seeds and get growing. Rolling my eyes.

Wow Betty they were expensive seeds Blinking , but you want to use them in your hybridizing program so well worth the price, especially since they all germinated, that is awesome. Hurray! Hurray!

Ya'll are doing great!!! It's so exciting to grow seeds.

Betty, those are some fine seeds that you have growing. How long does it take for you to get blooms?? It usually takes 2 years for me. I hope with the use of the alfalfa and some good fertilize I might get some in less time. If these that i have growing now, would bloom next summer, I'd be very happy!!!

Life can be fun, Mona Hurray! Hurray!

This is my first try at hybridizing so I don't know how long it will take, but Lyle mentioned that it will still probably be next year before I see blooms. I just got off to a really late start lat year, and hopefully this year will be better.

By the way, I think Steph mentioned bringing the pod parent indoors when trying a cross in difficult weather, and I'm wondering how that went because each year we go on vacation for two weeks in June, and I suspect that when we return it will be about 100 outside; and last year none of the crosses I tried in the 100 degree weather took, but when it cooled down to the 90's again I got a few more pods. So if I could bring the pod parents into the kitchen for 24 or 48 hours, where the temperature is not too cool, I'm wondering if they might take.

Does anyone have any ideas about that?

You would have a better chance of them taking if you brought them inside. Or if you have a nice shady spot under a tree that would work as well; it would be like putting them under a shade cloth.

Betty I did manage to get 10 pods to set on Boundless Beauty,. It was the most fertile thing I have ever seen. I actually removed some as did not want to overstress it since it was indoors. I ended up with 3 pods and the plant started to look weak so took one off early. Got one seed from it that has still not germinated. Got 5 seeds of it with Electric Red and they all Germinated. Got 3 with Born To Reign and only 1 germinated. The plant is coming back and now has 3 fans instead on 2 and is still in the living room window.

What beautiful Seedlings.
I love Festive Fall x Latin Rhythm Seedling, pretty colors and shape.

And the 2 pink seedlings are lovely!! And the black ambrosia seedling....WOW

It's so much fun growing things from seed.

I would love to see the seedling Lyle got. Anyone know where i can find that pic?

HI Ann (Farmerbell)!

I thought I posted here in response to your post, but I can't find it...or it's just my aging eyes *Blush*

I still love those pink ones you posted...did the one stay as large as it was in its early years (9 inches or so?)

You'll have to post or send me some pics of my crosses that you're still growing, would love to see what they've matured into.

And I'm happy to hear that I'm to blame for your "addiction"! Congrats on your registrations too by the way! Hurray!

Sandy's seed update. Out of the 31 seeds that I started, I now have 25 little seedlings under my grow light and am waiting for 4 more to show their little heads. I tossed 1 seed this morning, it was mush and I don't think the last one will do anything. I am really pleased with the germination rate that I got. Rolling my eyes. Green Grin!
