They are cute, especially the young ones. I see plenty each summer as those mama racoons bring the babies around each night. Always a batch of racoons coming thru here most of the night long.

Margaret, I wouldn't bet on your not having any but on the fact that you just don't see them coming around at night when you are sleeping.

Nope, none in our area, winter or summer I have never seen a footprint, only squirrels, cats and bears.. And I haven't heard anyone say anything about them getting into their compost or anything.

That is so weird to me. You have bears but no racoons. And racoons are more common than cats around here!

Cinda, we had them in the garden when we lived on Vancouver Island, and they live in the city of Vancouver, they are a real nuisance there, attacking small pets and even people.

I am surprised. They take advantage of every opportunity so I figgure they move in wherever they can.

Too cold and dry here maybe, not many people, so no easy pickings.

The winters may be too long for them to survive or summers too short to reproduce.
Animals tend to have to adapt to their environment not like us humans that change the environment to suit us.

Racoons just look so cute!!

Oh they are cute looking and they are really smart. Plus those paws are like little hands so they can get into all sorts of mischief. Opening garbage cans for instance.
