Oh Lord yes! I left the gooseneck loosestrife at the old garden when I moved- I bet the whole lawn is covered with it there now, LOL.

What a gift to leave the next unsuspecting gardener, lol!! I've had novices ask me for that. I can't do it in good conscience. Maybe some of that brush killer will deter it. It laughs at Roundup.

Good start, Allison...Love the mini snaps:) Never tried them, but might have to next year.

due to my lack of full sun.. I can get away with dwarf snaps... the tall ones always flop on me.. but I usually grow both anyway

Interesting....I've had 2 gooseneck loosestrife plants that I bought 15 years ago (one of the first plants I bought when I moved in ). The nursery I bought it from told me it was a variety that was non-invasive. To this day, I've never found another volunteer from my plants anywhere in my yard.

Evening primrose, on the other hand.....I started with 3 plants probably 13-14 years ago. I decided to remove it a year or two after planting. I'm still trying to remove it!

No new sproutings today, although a few of the jugs are starting to get a little greener, and the seedlings a little taller.

I saw some radicle emergence on my penstemon smalli today. I should have seedlings there soon- in a day or two. Probably won't be able to get out there with all the rain tomorrow.

I collected those penstemon seeds from my own plant last year. It was taking forever and the seeds never convinced me that they were totally mature and I never saw any pods open. Finally I cut off some whole stems and let them dry a little more in the house before cracking open the hard pods to collect the seeds. I guess they were actually ripe!

I am finally starting to get some sprouts in my wintersown containers!!! First sprouts are hollyhocks and salvia. One container, with delphinium seeds but no sprouts, has surface mold. I removed the lid, sprayed with neems and moved it to the south side of the building which gets more sun. The rest, I let be. I'll get some photos soon.

Great to hear Andi! I found some white, fuzzy surface mold on one this year. It was an old pack of Siberian Wallflower seeds, and there was some chaff and crushed seeds in the pack- I kinda think the mold was growing on that stuff. I figured those were probably duds, but it looks like a couple may be sprouting.

Several more things have germinated the last few days. I'm up to about 70 containers sprouted so far, just about half of them! Some more annuals showing up, I'm particularly excited to see Ageratum 'Leilani Blue' sprouting- I've never grown Ageratum from seed before. Some Petunias have started as well.

Looking for information on germination of Phlomis tuberosa and came to this thread!
I see that it took a month or more as a WS so it is not surprising that mine has not sprouted.
I am going to move it outside where it will experience oscillating WS temperatures.
Thanks for the information on wintersowing Phlomis tuberosa (Jerusalem sage).

I'm glad you bumped up this old thread Caroline! I went back to the beginning and re-read it. Neal's enthusiasm was contagious in his earlier WSing years. Smiling

Neal, I had forgotten that I'd shared some of those green-eyed rud seeds with you. I sowed a jug of them this year, the seeds several years old. A few have sprouted. But over the years they've become "contaminated" with genes for black eyes, too, so I never know what the offspring will look like. Sometimes they have green eyes, sometimes brown or black. Sometimes they're single, sometimes double.

There is a tremendous amount of good information buried in old threads!
I have started doing searches on any seeds which I want to try, and there is always some tidbit of info back there!

Caroline, I'm happy to see this thread again. I was actually trying to remember the species of some Penstemons in the garden just yesterday, and just saw it on this thread! I got away from the garden for a couple of years, and have been working for the last year to reclaim it. Happy to report the gardens are looking better than ever, and after taking a long break from seed starting, I have wintersown seeds again this year! Glad the information on Phlomis tuberosa was helpful. Those I started that year are still returning- just found them sprouting a couple of days ago.

Karen, I loved those Irish Eyes Rudbeckia! As I recall those from the seed you sent all had green eyes. I didn't save seeds from them, but bought some this year- one of the jugs I have sown outside Smiling

I'm also glad to see some of the older threads being bumped up. This site has so much good information.

I've not done any wintersowing this year (our winter was so brutal), but am planning to start some jugs with spring-sown annuals.
