I'm having trouble identifying this plant that is all over my yard. Is it wild lettuce, dandelions, or what could it be? I'm located in North FL near Talquin States forest.

I'm not sure what kinds of Hypochaeris grow in Florida but that's what it reminds me of.

It certainly has the look of a Compositae memeber. Do you have any photos of the flower?
The basal leaves could be of Crepis or Hypoechoeris.
It's a huge family with many possibilities.

There is no flowers on any of them. Just the leaves.

I looked up this plant- and it's not this one...however, I do have those growing all over my yard, too. I thought they were dandelions.. or maybe they are. I don't know... There seems to be 10 plants that look like the same plant for so many plants. How do you ever properly identify?

Some of the bunches have prickly looking leaves, and some are more rounded...I think you can see that in the photos.

You are right, they all look alike. If the flowers are yellow, we may have to ID it as Another DYC.

I think it's a dandelion. Dreaded weed in lawns.

If you break a leaf, is there white sap inside? Are the leaves white on the back?

Kate, you might be on the right track with some kind of wild lettuce. It does look like prickly lettuce which grows all over the US.

Or it could be False dandelion, Hypochaeris radicata as already mentioned above.

It's not dandelion ( Taraxacum ) which has a very distinct leaf, like this:



Which is not a weed in my book. Actually dandelions are one of the best foods on the planet, very nutritious and good for spring cleaning of the entire body. Every part of dandelion is edible and good for you. (Of course, if it has been sprayed with pesticides, it's no longer good as food so don't eat if you have used chemicals in your lawn or don't know how the lawn has been treated).

It's one of the native FL wild lettuces. Kate, you will have several varieties. You will most likely have this one too.
