OK Sharon.. Rita.. how many do each of you need.. there's an abundance... they say the black ones are a melanistic variant of the eastern gray squirrels... seems to be a gene thing...
During the Presidency of Teddy Roosevelt 18 black Canadian squirrels were released at the National Zoo. they spread through DC and then moved up to NY... others have been imported to other places... 10 were imported into Kent State Univ in the 60's by a professor looking to study change on introducing new animals.. they did just fine taking over.. and sometimes drive the gray one out... both live here in the city.. Ontario seems to be an original seat for the populations..
they seem to do better than the grays... the black fur gatheres more solar heat in the winter... cauasing the animal to need less food to keep the body temperatures up.. hince a better survivor ..

I have a friend south of here who has an albino squirrel or two living in or near her yard. Maybe if I bring an albino up and you ship a black down, we could raise a new breed and call them 'scentless skunks' or maybe tuxedo squirrels, whattya think, Gordon?? Piano squirrels? Zebra squirrels?

"Ahhhh yes, there go those zebra squirrels that Gordon and Sharon created way back in 2012 . . . why I remember when squirrels were only $25 each. Ahhhhhh those were the days. "

Yeah I think too much, but Gordon understands every word.

Or Dalmation squirrels, or Damnation squirrels. Hilarious!

The black are striking. I'm not sure if it's just the color that makes them appear so but their noses appear more pointed than the grey or the reds. Not having ever seen them in person I don't know. Gordon?

Understand.....MMMMMMMMMM I'm concerned but I do...
here's the start there Sharon.. shouldn't be too long now... making things that get picked up is funny.. sometimes I'm on e-bay and I see someone selling Gordan's
picotee datura seeds.. it seems a bit strange.. live running up on an old friend... they are seeds from a picoteed plant I had... and I'd thought I'd fed it something that didn''t agree with it.. I'm big on helping with too much of a host of additives.. but it bread true... at least partially ...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/gordan...
well I had computer problems about that time and brought it too this russian kid to fix.. he reformated one of my computer names to work right and called it Gordan's ... that's where the photo of it was as it got picked up and the seeds got it's name changed in common use age.. running up onto Sharon and Gordon's squirrels will always be fun..
one of the cat breeds has some deal with floppy ears or some strange tail thing going on.. and it's always dominant .. I thought how funny to release some into say the city's roving wild cat populations.. and come back years later and find they had all taken on the new look... is that called megalomania
here we go.....

Ann.. well a bit more pointy... but perhaps because they all seem a bit thiner to me.. guess they don't need as much of a fat buffer being black... I'd always thought they seemed thinner in black ... ask any fashionista

Tell you what, maybe if we named them Gordan and Sharan, they'd catch on much faster.

I'm glad to see somebody has as much fun with what goes on inside minds as I do. Whistling

Fun about the seeds, but shouldn't you be getting residuals?

Your favorite? How can you tell them apart? I have no idea how many squirrels I have here except sometimes I will see 9-10 at a time eating the birdseed and cracked corn spread out for the birds and squirrels.
