Part of the story of Hillfarm as we know it will always have to be the roses that we found here.

I loved your story, Kathleen! Historical events involving the roses could have played out in exactly the ways you've described; and in the process of investigating your roses' origins, you found a new love. Lovey dubby

Thank you all for your kind words. Yes, I think there is a note of truth in my myths.

The lovely thing about the old roses is that they know how to survive and are relatively easy to care for. Black spot can be a problem, but it doesn't actually hurt the roses, they bounce back. Some don't like the fact that they only bloom once, but there are several old garden roses that do rebloom reliably. I look at look at hybrid teas and shake my head. I know how lucky I am!

I loved this story Kathleen and I adore roses. Just saying the word and you can smell their wonderful fragrance.

I've found a few roses on this property as well. It's amazing how they survive from years of neglect and then someone finds them and they are the center of attention again Lovey dubby

Lucky you, Kat.
Like Vic, just looking at your photos and seeing those roses, I could smell my grandmother's front yard.

Of course it's been 50 years since I did that, but the memory and the scent are still there.
