I'm confused if I should nick the blue lupines seeds, soak them or just plant them in the milk jug and let Mother Nature work her magic. Have you ever sown lupines? I'd love to hear about your experiences or suggestions.

When I did them, I just wintersowed like everything else.

Instructions on seed packs assume that you will be growing them under lights. For wintersowing you don't need to do all that stuff. Don't read instructions, just sow the seeds.

My only suggestion would be to maybe wait a while on those. Big seeds like that can rot if left too long in cold wet soil. I'd probably wait until around late February or early March.

Pippi, I should have added that I'm in zone 6. You might be zone 7? IOW, you might have warmer spring temps, so Feb might be good.

Last year I wintersowed lupine. I did not soak or nick them and they germinated just fine. I had them out on the back porch, not out in the snow.

How long did they take to germinate?

Did you wait for danger of frost to pass, or does that not matter?

thank you.

I have never jug wintersown (is that a word?) but my lupines reseed themselves. I always get several new babies in the spring.

I wintersowed over 100 jugs of seeds this winter and the lupines did the best of everything. I didn't nick the seed or anything.
