I noticed the photos are smaller than before when clicked to enlarge. I went to Cubits to make sure I wasn't imagining it. The pics are larger in Cubits. Maybe it's just something to get used to.

I've mainly been using Chrome for a while now, and with it the photos do open super fast and are larger; with IE, not so fast, and definitely smaller. I really like being able to click basically anywhere and the enlarged photo closes. And the grayed-out background does make the photo stand out more to me.

I want to do a comparison. This post can be deleted later if it messes with the flow of the thread.

I don't have many photos left in Cubits to use as a basis for comparison, but I'll post a photo of Mambo here because the cat photos got left behind in Cubits.

Thumb of 2012-02-18/zuzu/e189ac

It's the photo in this Cubits post, in case anyone else wants to compare the two methods:

http://cubits.org/roses/thread...

I enlarged both on Firefox. The ATP photo takes longer and is only about half the size.

For me, it's actually bigger here at ATP than on Cubits...

Hmm, had to open them several times to tell, but the one on Cubits seems just slightly larger for me (using Chrome); not much, but slightly. and about the same speed.

For me it is about a half inch larger on Cubits but about 2 seconds slower.

On cubits the image seems to unfold as it opens. On ATP it's just right there right now.

Can't tell a lot of difference in clarity. Maybe because my page won't gray. Sigh.

Tried a comparison of my cat pic on Cubits and here and the one on Cubits is definitely larger, the background does not go gray, and I couldn't tell any difference in the sharpness other than the photo being bigger. Both seemed to pop up at just about the same speed. Strange that there is so much variation from one person to another - ??

It's based on the browser width. The Cubits size is static regardless of how big your browser is.

But here at ATP, if your browser is wide enough, it's possible to have images be even larger.

But if your browser is small enough, ATP will show it smaller. While Cubits will continue to show the same image regardless of your size, and if your browser is too small, you simply get a horizontal scrollbar.

Do you mean the monitor width?

FF here. Faster and smaller on ATP vs. Cubits.

Actually I mean the browser width. You can have a big monitor but a small browser window. What matters is how big your browser window is.

If the browser is full-screen then that would match the monitor's resolution and they would be one and the same.

Oh, I never think of browsers in terms of dimensions. I think I keep my browser window small so that I don't have scroll back and forth all the time, so that explains why the image is smaller for me on ATP.

I have an old "granny-sized" monitor to match my 12" TV sets, which usually are smirked at by people who come to my home. Green Grin! I don't replace things until they stop working, so maybe I'll upgrade someday.

When you tile Cubits and ATP vertically with the Kitty pic open it's clear as day. Never noticed that before. Thanks.

I'm kind of lost on this now, but if this helps I have a 17" laptop and my browser is full screen on here and Cubits...

So does that also explain why it's slower for me on ATP, Dave? Is the extra second or so a result of the photo being reduced to conform to my small browser window?

That very well could partly account for the slowness. I could see how it could take extra time to resize it down on your side.

I spent quite a bit of time this evening researching this and I'm still planning on looking further into this, but for now I'm heading to bed. Smiling
