I did not think that these subsequent posts belonged anywhere in out recent threads, so I am starting a new one: Orchids Up North!
What do you guys think?
I will be posting on primarily 2 things, The Orchid Judging from the Great Lakes Judging Center. My letters of transfer have been accepted and posted in Florida and Michigan. I will report on what comes before Orchid Judges in Michigan. From what I have seen in my research they award a lot of species, Paphiopedilums, Phalaenopsis and Phragmipediums. A good deal of this material may be plants that many of us do not grow but I would like to introduce all of you to these plants.
The second main area of posts would be things from both the Ann Arbor Orchid Society and Michigan Orchid Society. Both are a half hour from me, one east, one west.
A third area of posts will be on orchid shows, what's for sale and what some exhibits look like from the "far north!" But those could be posted in our show/shopping thread that already exists.
But in summary it might turn out to be a very interesting and informative thread. I have an Ann Arbor Orchid Society meeting this Sunday at 2pm. Stay tuned.

I left the title blank because some one might have a better name. If not maybe Ursula could insert "Orchids Up North" if we get some consensus.

Sounds good, Bill! I don't grow those genera you mentioned, but I look forward to reading your reports and learning more about them.

Thanks Australis. I don't grow them either. Years ago I dabbled in them but didn't do to well. I guess you might say that we will all learn something together. When you see Phrag. Jason Fisher or Phrag Fritz Schomburg, you would like to try wouldn't you?!

Well I must say that driving 1340 miles over 2 days was the easy part. But know that I am here, I can get the ball moving.
All my plants made the trip beautifully and are in the sun room at my son's house. I see several spikes coming so I can anticipate those blooming.
My car arrives either Sunday or Monday.

Here is the latest.
"Cowboy" is dropping off my car this morning around 8:30 so I will be with an old friend!
I will water every plant today with the only confirmed casualty being one spike on a Cattletonia but there is another one coming. All others are just fine.
My son loves his new Phalaenopsis! His are in need of repotting. I'll take care of them ASAP.
Closing here is on for April 23rd.
