My toms. haven't grown at all, no doubt due to cold weather and constant rain. So of course, no sun.

We have also had some terribly stormy days. Parts of our area have been declared disaster areas. Tornadoes made a path a few miles north. Fortunately we didn't get any major damage here.
Although the weather has been quirky...down to 49 this past week, it's sunny and warm today. Tomatoes seem to be doing well so far. I did go ahead and sprinkle deer deterrent around them. Basically, last year we fed them and not ourselves.

Deer and rabbits, the bane of my garden's existence. Last year I got rid of my lilies and the deer left me alone. But a rabbit built a nest and had a bunch of babies, the whole family stuck around in my yard all summer. I haven't used any repellent this year, it would be a waste with inches of rain daily. If the rain ever stops, I'll start spraying my repellent.

Mine sprouted weeks ago, but they're not doing anything, just sitting around looking stupid. This was yesterday.
Thumb of 2011-04-26/kqcrna/95e2b2

I thinned them to one seedling/cup yesterday and added some soil to the top of the cup.

But look at the roots. Rotten photographer, but you can see that while the seedling is barely 2" tall, the roots extend to the bottom of the 16 oz. cup, through 3" of soil.

Those look great. I am limping along. I think I had too much bottom heat which cut down on what came up. I just returned from a two week trip and DH has done a good job watering them.

I think I'll re-pot tomrrow.

Karen, I'm sure your little ones will do well if you can ever get them into the ground. The roots on them look great.
We have that good for bricks clay here, too. It has taken years of composting and digging to break that up. It's much better but I can still find spots of big clay lumps. I'm tempted to just dig them out and throw them into the bottom of the compost bin. Wonder what would happen to them in there?
We are getting that rain now...it started yesterday and is forecast for the next 3 days. Glad we got our little ones in before it started.
Arlene, good that your dh took care of your babies while you were gone. Mine would have either forgotten them, or over watered. Feast of famine here.

Yes, but it never stops raining so no telling when (or if) they'll get planted. I haven't even finished weeding and cleaning up the beds from last year.

I drove to work at 6:15 this morning in rain. Just got home, and it's raining and windy. Severe weather risk until 1 a.m. It's ALWAYS raining. 12" in one month, now the second rainiest month ever in Cincinnati since record keeping started in the mid 1800s.

Lots of local roads are closed for flooding, as well as mudslides. Roads are falling apart, literally, with giant sink holes and buckling concrete. Gardening is out of the question.

I looked at the pictures in the link you listed. All I can say is that I hope you are safe...That's scary. Fingers crossed that you see the sun soon.

Got back from CA and many have not germinated. I think the bottom heat was too hot. But there are some and hopefully they will do well.

Rain here the whole time I was gone. Tomatoes look ok but a little spindly. I need to wait for the first set of true leaves before I pot them up again.

That would be nice. It's supposed to be sunny and warm today so I plan to work in the yard while I have the chance. I have some stuff that needs to be transplanted now but I STILL have to get the beds cleaned up. And it will give my husband a chance to cut the grass again.

My tomatoes are so slow this year. I think I killed them with too much bottom heat.

I sowed 36 varieties and have:

Green Zebra, Kelloggs Breakfast, Mr. Stripey, Sun Gold, Azoychka, Aunt Ruby's German Green, Red Lightning, Ramapo F-1, Snow White, & Pineapple.

10 out of 36.

Worst ever but probably my own fault.

Do you still have enough time to try again? I would here but don't know about your zone.

I'm zone 5 B. I suppose I could but I am so disappointed in myself I don't think I will. The one I really wanted to grow is Orange King and I am out of seed on that one. I'll just order more seed next year.

We do have a little hardware store 5 miles away that actually does get in a few heirloom plants; I'll check that out.

I poked around in the cups outside and found some of the seeds covered in algae.....others I think rotted away Glare Got up early this morning and got the beds weeded, it was nice to do it before the neighbors wake up....that way it was nice and quiet Smiling
