Despite what you may have heard about growing clematis, these beautiful plants are quite easy to grow. There are many variables to take into consideration when selecting the perfect plant for your location.
I've never tried moving one once it was established. I did dig up and give a big one away once though and I'm pretty sure it did OK. Let us know if yours make it.
Most of mine are on the south side of our house, but in my zone 4 area they do fine.
I'm so excited. I never have had Clems before but I'd posted on FB a few blooms that I loved. I'm forever posting pictures of blooming things I want.
This morning there was a knock at my door and a friend was here with two huge pots complete with trellises. She's moving into a smaller home and said she had no extra space for these clems. I just about cried I was so excited. She has no name for them, just that they are purple she said, and that one was smaller than the other.
Who cares? I have Clems!!! Whoo hoooooooo. In huge pots!! With large trellises!
Name: Betsy Texas (Zone 9a) In the beginning GOD created ...
Woofie, I'm in zone 9. I thought I could keep up with the watering and provide the needed root protection but after two years, thought it was time to dig them up and found a new place for them. They are in pots now and one has a little shoot poking up
Ha! It's 72 today and I've been outside pruning my new clems. I love saying that: 'pruning my clems'. Doesn't it sound just like I know what I'm doing??
But the truth is they arrived here in the back of an open bed pick up truck from about 3 miles away, so they were pretty windblown. So I started pruning, inch by inch, reading this article with every snip of the pruners. Got down a few inches and there it was, new growth!!! All over both of them.
Hi Bev, thanks. Sounds like you're a bit ahead of us weather-wise. I still have to wait at least a month or so until mine start coming up. If you have any pictures, please add them to the database!
