You were probably growing Clarkia pulchella, Caroline. It's definitely thin and tall, and is native to the NW and a few other areas. I used to admire it growing wild in Oregon and got out my Audubon book to identify it. Then went on a quest for seeds! I really like the flowers, although the plant itself is a bit sparse.
Confidence is that feeling you have right before you do something really stupid.
Sigh, hope the seeds keep, because silly me didn't get them planted this year. Like so many other things I forgot...... But boy, do I have LOTS of petunias!

I have always used the two terms interchangeably, but I guess I should start using the proper terms. I think I germinated some Clarkia – Amoena, “Aurora” and that got to be about 2 feet tall in partial shade. I sowed some in a sunnier area this spring, and those topped out at about a foot.
Name: Michele Roth N.E. Indiana - Zone 5b, and F (Zone 9b) I'm always on my way out the door..
My regular seeds failed to germinate for whatever reason, but I had both pink and white Clarkia pulchella. I say had because they appear to be done already. I think the area I moved them into might have been just a bit too sunny and hot. If they'd have hung around just a bit longer I think they'd be loving the weather we've had lately. Cooler, cloudy and wet every day.
