Yes, what I have grown as clarkia is a tall slim plant.
Godetias tend to be dwarf plants.

Holy cow, I had no idea. But I also have no idea what I planted since they never germinated! Hilarious! Hilarious!

You were probably growing Clarkia pulchella, Caroline. It's definitely thin and tall, and is native to the NW and a few other areas. I used to admire it growing wild in Oregon and got out my Audubon book to identify it. Then went on a quest for seeds! I really like the flowers, although the plant itself is a bit sparse.

Karen, why not try they in both full sun and part sun. I read that they bloom better with limited fertilizer. Too much fertilizer = less blooms

First blooms on Godetia

Though it's starting to flower, it's only maybe 4" or 5" tall. Here, not much taller than the alyssum to the right.

According to T&M, it's supposed to be a 12-14" plant. We'll see

Sigh, hope the seeds keep, because silly me didn't get them planted this year. Like so many other things I forgot...... Rolling my eyes. But boy, do I have LOTS of petunias! Hilarious!

I have always used the two terms interchangeably, but I guess I should start using the proper terms. I think I germinated some Clarkia – Amoena, “Aurora” and that got to be about 2 feet tall in partial shade. I sowed some in a sunnier area this spring, and those topped out at about a foot.

My regular seeds failed to germinate for whatever reason, but I had both pink and white Clarkia pulchella. I say had because they appear to be done already. I think the area I moved them into might have been just a bit too sunny and hot. If they'd have hung around just a bit longer I think they'd be loving the weather we've had lately. Cooler, cloudy and wet every day.
