I've found the Garden Scarecrow chases everything away from plants, except underground animals. You can set it to different heights, and I set it high to chase away birds from my raspberries. But we could see tracks where different animals, including deer went running when I left it on at night.

It won't hurt any animal, just at the most get them a little wet, but it's very effective.

Joanne, this thead's two years old, so I don't have the container anymore.

I succeeded in getting rid of most of the alliums (that's what they were), but only by removing everything from the bed, sifting the bulbs out of the soil, and then planting everything back. I still have a few alliums coming up here and there, but they aren't ovewhelming the little roses.

Zu - No, she's just dumber than dirt. I've seen turnips with a higher IQ. Embarrassingly, she got a very poor score on one of those doggie IQ tests.. She absolutely loves her Red Lizardfish, though, and will stare at it for hours.. and when the fish actually moves (it's a stealth predator), she goes ballistic over the fact that her fish moved!! Plus she loves licking the glass.. the salt probably tastes good. Dummy Dog.

Citrus oil has worked wonders for me in deterring cats from the flower beds in my front lawn. I don't want to use anything that could hurt my plants or the cats although they are annoying...
If you have pine nearby you can try small cuttings around your yard too. There's a blog post I found that was very useful, I'll try to dig it up.

No, I just give a heads up for any that see this for the first time. Some of the original members may no longer be here and so it gives someone a heads up that if replying directly to them, they may not get a response since the thread is older.
