When I bought this plant it didn't have an individual tag. It'is a tropical shrub and has small yellow trumpet shaped flowers. Initially it was a bit sick looking or stressed. But now a couple of months in the ground it's grown and greened up a lot. However the flowers are gone. So this might be its growing season and the soil is to its liking. The drier time of year (more stressful time) might be the flowering season. If someone could identify it I'd much appreciate it, thanks.

Janet, I checked out that Allamanda neriifolia and all the images that I could muster up with google. But it doesn't seem quite the same. However, not all the images that I googled up are all the same either. Perhaps it's been over cultivated and a lot of different forms/types have emerged.

The history of this plant is that a friend of the people who run the nursery brought it up from Perth, without a name. They just took cuttings and started selling it. When I suggested Allamanda they were a bit skeptical. They've got a friend in the business who according to them knows all there is to know about plants. They are going to ask him when he gets back from holidays.

If this one grows in Perth, that's a mediterranean climate, although watering could help it through. But it must be able to take non-tropical temperatures. Just don't know how low. Perth can get minumums down close to 0C

Yes I was a bit skeptical too Zig, but there is a good likeness so it might have led to something close to it. The main difference I can see is the long pedicel on yours but the photo I linked to which is obviously in Asia does have a pedicel.

Wiki gives info on Allamanda but I guess you have checked that already, they are highly sensitive to frost but we all grow plants on the edge.
