I believe this is a wild geranium...just not sure which. Right now it's not blooming. The pics are of a pot that it has taken over...it pops up all over the yard.

I think it is Geranium carolinianum, very common around here.

Would it be a good idea to wait for flowers to be sure?

Yes, Janet is right ... many plants look alike, it's best to wait for blooms and a positive ID.

Looks like Geranium carolinianum, to me. I've never seen anything else close, but then I'm not in Florida.

My caution is due to the fact that many Geranium leaves look very similar, look at G. maculatum for comparison ... scroll to the photo of leaves.

Never realised there were so many varieties of geranium. USDA only shows Geranium carolinianum growing in Florida, throughout most of the state . Bonap also shows Geranium maculatum, but it is only recorded in Gadsden County.

Not only could it be a species, it could be a self set from a cultivated plant. However, if you look where Gadsden County is in comparison to Fountain, Florida ... they are more or less in the same location. Records rarely show all locations, and I doubt plants know where borders are.

I just went and got a leaf. Looking at the 2 links Janet posted I really think it is g. carolinianum. It takes me 1 1/2 to 2 hours to get to Gadsden Co. from here, but that is not by way of the crow Also the stems on mine are pinkish rather then green and the fruit looks spot on. I'm gonna go ahead and add it and if necessary it can be moved. Thanks

I would bet on G. carolinianum, but like Janet said plant don't know where the borders are. If you decide to post in the database, it would be a good idea to keep an eye on it just in case.
