Does this need a databox to check off or ?

This is what the US Patent Office has to say about patented plants and I want to note patented plants in some entries:

"Propagation of patented plants in any way, shape or form without the owner's permission or until the patent term has expired, is strictly prohibited by federal law. Patents are for 17 or 20 years and are not renewable."

Just a few thoughts: being able to know that a plant is patented would be good information to have.

More than just a checkbox, it would be nice to have the year that the patent was received, as well as the patent number.

The fact that a plant is still under patent and sometimes even the patent number itself is often found on new plant tags.

But if we don't know all that info, it doesn't mean we can't enter the plant in the db, right?

So will be have a special place in the entry for that information?

I'll venture a suggestion. A check box in the Miscellaneous section of the databox might work. Checking "Patented" would be similar to checking something like "Endangered" since all currently endangered plants won't necessarily remain that way forever just like patented plants don't remain that way forever. Maybe when it was checked, the magic line would appear like it does other places and we could fill in the patent number or year of patent expiration if we have that information. If not, I suppose the line could just remain blank? I don't know. Just a suggestion. It needs to be something that will work for everyone across the board, and I don't know where else it would go?

That's not a bad idea, Tee. A checkbox for patented under Miscellaneous, with a magic line appearing where you can optionally add whatever patent info you deem appropriate.

I like that idea, with the option of being able to add all the information if we can find it.

Sorry, I'm just getting back here. Since no one seems to be objecting, I vote for the box under Misc. along with the magic line option. I have some hardy Hibiscus that I want to add that information as well as some other things. The patent holders of those are renowned in their field and it just seems like the respectful thing to do. Or we could put it under propagation. Whatever ya'll want to do.

How about PPAF? If we use the patent check box the PPAF and number or info could go into the Magic line.

Let me see if I can find one. I'm using the check box and then putting what info I have on the line. Is that what you are doing?

And this is another Patent Pending. I'm noting the pending ones in a comment. I might change that but if the patent is pending , it is recorded under that number. So will change when a patent is granted. Hybrid Hardy Hibiscus (Hibiscus 'Robert Fleming')

Dave would you add a Patent field for sedum in the plant specific area?

The patent field is present for all plants. Why do you want a second one for a specific plant? It would be entirely redundant.
