This is growing all over my back yard and it looks very similar to an picture I saw a while ago regarding an edible species. Could this be the same plant I read about?
What is this and is it edible?

I suppose it would help to give my location...
This is in the central valley of Northern California, growing in a substrate of sandy peat.
I just added the mulch a couple days ago so you can ignore that.

Aha! That was the name, Chickweed! I knew it was something simple!
Now that I have a good idea that it's edible, I'll admit I ate a small piece a few days ago.
Tasted good and no ill effects, but I wanted to make sure before I ate any more.
We had chickweed in our salad last night. We snip off the leaves (one by one) rather than throw it all in. I find the stems can be slightly bitter and fibrous enough to make them a bit difficult to chew.

Hey thanks for the tip Dave,
Come to think of it, It might have been your episode on The Survival Podcast that mentioned chickweed. That was a great show and that's what brought me here, by the way.
