I still have 11 dragon wings, taking their sweet old time. They're alive, but talk about slow!

Be sure to have 16 hours of light. Everyone thinks of begonias to be "shade" plants, but is they don't get enough light at the seedling stage, they will start to disappear.

Yep, the lights are on 24/7 I guess I have very sleepy plants. Not much light here in cloudy Washington state.
Joanne, what are you seeing new in the greenhouse bis? If you have time will you post on maybe the greehouse or annual forum? or coleus. Under the sea coleus looks interesting.
Allison, thanks for the cheering! A few always die when transplanting. Grumbling After all this time, I think I planted these the 1st of January. Hate to lose any.

any loss is heartbreaking when caring for something that long.. think it's better to turn off the lights for a couple of hours.. but will let the expert weigh in

Wow, springcolor, I could never transplant something that small. I'm certain not one would survive. I'm totally impressed by your dexterity.

My Dragon Wings are bigger than that, but still very small. I'll try to get a picture today. My lights are on 16 hrs/day. They sure are slowpokes. I won't transplant them from the APS system for a while.

In fact, I dropped the APS, breaking the styrofoam cells in 2 places. They're getting pretty old and have been used quite a few times. I could replace the styrofoam parts cheaply enough but Lee Valley has a similar system made of heavier material which I think would stand up to my abuse better.

I leave my lights on for 16 hours. I don't think 24 hours light is a good thing. Isn't it at night when the plant actually grows. Does the photosynthesis by day, plant growth by night

Hoping I don't kill them. I can usually leave things in that APS for quite a while.

One cell didn't sprout, and as you can see, another just stopped growing. It sprouted a day or two after the others. A dud I guess.

springcolor,

Why don't you put a timer on it, then you don't need to hassle with turning them on/off

There are lots of kinds of timers. They can be digital or mechanical, can have one or more outlets. One of mine has only one outlet, so I plug a power strip into that and the lights into the power strip.
