Thumb of 2012-03-24/sugarcane/55360c This past week has been pretty warm..in the low 80's and that has
shortened the daffodil season, but the iris , clemitis ,and azaleas are ready to pick up the slack!

My Australian amaryllis 'Sitting Bull' finally opened. These flowers are huge.

The Jacaranda tree is beginning to bloom. It looks like a great show coming up. The brown clam like things hanging in the tree are seed pods left over from last year

My favorite tree...as long as it isn't in my tiny yard. I love them, but they are very prone to wind damage here.

Jim, do you have your amaryllis in pots or in the ground?
That's a nice one!

Carol, they are prone to wind damage everywhere. They are brittle and can snap off in the slightest gust. The main trunk can split in half or even into thirds. I drilled through mine and have it bolted together. It is also rather dirty and itters the ground with spent leaves and flowers. That said, it sure is pretty.

Lindsey, I have them both in pots and in the ground.

I agree with you on the Jacaranda, I love it when they're all in bloom, as long as they're not near the house. They aren't any messier than the nasty queen palm I have growing at the corner of my place, and they're alot prettier, but the palm won't break off in the wind...I hope.

I know what you mean about the Queen Palms. There are tons of them around here.

Here are pictures of my Jaboticaba fruit growing right on the main branches of the tree. This is the first time I have gotten fruit and I planted the tree 13 years ago. I wish you could all try it with me. Not bad, really.

Hey, Janice, if you start us a new thread, I'll post some pics of the jacaranda in full bloom.
