I have been watching this amaryllis noid I got from my aunt, slowly growing but there is this damage on its growing flower stem. So far the bloom seems to be proceeding with its maturity but I am worried about the stem, seems to be about to collapse soon. Such a nice big bulb that is forming two flower stems.
Any idea what it is, and what I can do about it? Sad

So hard to decide if I should destroy the plant..or should I just remove that afflicted flower stalk, and hope that the 2nd flowerscape comes out well..it does have very strong leaves already..

I think botrytis spreads pretty easily. Unfortunately, IMHO it should be wrapped tightly in a plastic bag and placed in the household refuse container. That's just me though, I'm perhaps a bit over-cautious. Maybe you could segregate it until someone else drops by to give their opinion?

I had one last year that looked like that and it turned out to have a fat caterpillar, possibly a cutworm, inside the stalk. So,I believe that Chelle had the right idea.Segregate the plant and cut into the stem.If you don't find any livestock then dispose of the plant.Better not to take a chance with your other plants.

Don't know what I am talking about here. In my other plants, I would use full strength peroxide. The 3% solution most commonly sold. Then sprinkle some regular cinnamon all over the bulb. Keep it far away from spreading to others, You got nothing to loose. Try to save it and let us know what happens. Also water from now on thru the bottom keeping the top dry.
This has worked for some other house plants I own. If it works here, you can tell the world.

The flower stalk finally fell over last night, so I have removed it and have applied a lot of cinnamon powder. There is still one flower stalk trying to grow. Oh well I guess it is a win some and lose some event for me.
