Size of Plant: The size plants offered through this Co-op are varied in sizing partly due to the various species and partly due to the age of several of the species. These plants are propagated from cuttings and seeds and are approximately one year to eighteen months old.
Shipping:
As much soil as possible will be removed and top-growth retained whenever possible for efficient shipping. Roots will be wrapped in dampened materials and encased in plastic. The plants will be individually wrapped and labeled with common and botanical names.
Plants will be shipped directly from the grower using USPS Priority service and Delivery Confirmation. The Delivery Confirmation number will be shared with the buyer to assist in tracking the plant's arrival.
Limited Supply
Some of these plants are limited in number by the grower. If you have any questions, please ask. Additionally, several of these plants are rare so numbers of intensely dark-leaved plants are sometimes limited. To ensure you receive the plants you have been seeking, you will have to order early!
AUTUMN SAGE, HARDY SAGE X ( Salvia greggii hybrid 'FURMAN'S RED' X 'RASPBERRY DELIGHT')
This is an almost unique saliva because the bloom colors vary from the darkest red to medium fuchsia to pink...on the same shrub at the same time on the same day! The hybrid has the same strong attributes of other in the species...hardy perennial, highly aromatic foliage, and drought-tolerant and xeric when established. As with all salvias, this plant is also a bee, butterfly and hummingbird magnet. This attractive plant gets between 24-36" high and wide across USDA zones 6a-9b. It is mostly evergreen through the southern zones and provides perpetual blooms when planted in full sun.

CHINESE PEONY DOUBLE RED (Paeonia lactiflora ssp. ) -

In the world of ornate hybrids, many of the older tired and true hybrids are becoming more difficult to locate. This is one of those species plants. This offer is a double red peony first cited by the Chinese more than 3,000 years ago as 'one of the true fragrants'. The plant's color is a deep, dark red and the plant exhibits a longer blooming period of fully double blooms than many of the more modern hybrids. It is viable in USDA zones 3a through 8b and like it's progeny, is herbaceous during the winter, propagated by division of eyes, and reaches a mature height in the garden of 30".
EUPHORBIA 'BLACKBIRD' (Euphorbia 'Blackbird')
The extraordinary foliage on this plant is a Show-Stopper! The leaves can be soft red, dark red, burgundy, and black -- all at the same time. The spring blooms are also spectacular because the floral display adds a sharp contrast of yellow and green almost lacy blooms above the darker foliage coloration. This cushion spurge is a perennial reaching 12 to 24" in the garden and should be planted in full sun in the lower USDA zones of 6a to 8. This small shrub will bloom consistently in afternoon shade in USDA zones 8 to 9b and can remain 'evergreen' in milder climates. Blackbird was discovered in the UK by Norcutts Nursery. It is a sport of E. 'Red Wing' and E. x martinii (E. amygdaloides x E. characias). As with all euphorbias, avoid skin contact with the milky sap. Unlike many of the more common Euphorbias, this plant has no spines, spikes or sharp prongs. It is drought-tolerant when established, but is not considered a cactus.

This wood spurge exhibits red, burgundy and dark burgundy color all year long. Place it in a conspicuous sunny site in the garden anywhere in USDA zones 7a through 10a. It can take the heat! It is a smaller size shrub, only reaching 18 to 20" at maturity. Spring blooms rise above the foliage adding height to the shrub and incredible green and maroon color to the display. Unlike other wood spurges, this hybrid grows slowly and maintains an excellent shape in the garden. Rudolph was found in the UK and is assumed to be a sport hybrid of Euphorbia x martinii (E. amygdaloides x characias). As with all euphorbias, avoid skin contact with the milky sap. Unlike many of the more common Euphorbias, this plant has no spines, spikes or sharp prongs. It is drought-tolerant when established, but is not considered a cactus.

HIBISCUS 'MAHOGANY SPLENDOR' (Hibiscus acetosella x 'Mahogany Splendor') OUT
Mahogany Splendor sports the darkest red, burgundy and black foliage seen in the trade to date! This is a very different member of the landscape hibiscus because the foliage is the star of the show! The plant does have pink flowers, but they are not the traditional floral display we expect with hibiscus. The sun enhances the dark foliage, but the plant can also be a stellar shade plant. It can be planted directly into the landscape (USDA zones 6a through 9b), but it can also be planted in a water garden. It is deer-resistant in an open landscape, growing to 5' or more. But it can be trimmed to form a striking focal point in a small garden. Mahogany Splendor is a perennial that will die to the ground after a deep frost or freezing weather.

HIBISCUS 'HAIGHT ASHBURY' (Hibiscus acetosella x 'Haight Ashbury') OUT - Will Have More Later
The standard image of hibiscus is shattered when you see 'Haight Ashbury'! The leaves are deeply dissected and intensely red with pink, dark burgundy, and white splashes on each leaf! This variegated variety is most often mistaken for a new hybrid of Japanese Maple or a variegated marijuana. It was named for the San Francisco area made famous in the mid-1970s so of course, it resembles marijuana. The blooms on the plant are a stunning dark red or burgundy and last a whole day. Most often, the shrub is covered with blooms starting in mid-summer through the first cold snap. 'Haight Ashbury' is a bee, butterfly and hummingbird magnet and should have a little afternoon shade in the hotter portions of the country. The plant is most often is considered a short-termed perennial, producing intense vigor of bloom over an 18 to 24-month period. The plant is hardy as a landscape plant to 20 degrees F. and remains evergreen in USDA Zones 9 through 11b. It is an excellent choice for a container plant.
HIBISCUS 'MAPLE SUGAR' (Hibiscus acetosella x 'Maple Sugar') OUT - Will Have More Later
This is a tall, upright shrub that can reach 5' or more during the growing season. The leaves are dark red, burgundy or black/red in color creating a stunning focal point in the summer garden. The maple-leaf shaped foliage is definitely the star, but the dark burgundy blooms are often prolific. Prolific enough that the bees and butterflies will make multiple visits. This plant is truly heat tolerant, but is classified as an annual or short-termed perennial when used as a container plant. It can be cut back at anytime during the growing season to maintain shape and height.
HIBISCUS 'PANAMA RED' (Hibiscus acetosella 'Panama Red')
Panama Red hosts dark, lacy leaves that resemble a Red Japanese Maple. The blooms are almost eclipsed by the beautiful foliage because they are also a dark, dark burgundy red and hide among the lacy leaves. This is the newest hybrid of the Athens Select Development Team from Georgia. This new hibiscus is a perennial and functions as a hardy hibiscus in USDA Zones 7b through 11. This shrub grows to 4' x 2' in full sun with adequate moisture during the hottest months, and grows 2-3' in partial or high shade. The deeply cut foliage emerges dark red in the spring and maintains that dark, luscious color throughout the heat of summer. While the blooms are a secondary feature on this stunning plant, the blooms are high in nectar and attract bees and butterflies to the garden.
PASSIONFLOWER 'RUBY GLOW' (Passiflora alata 'Ruby Glow')
Red Passion Vine has huge, red or dark maroon 5" blooms that emit a heavy, nutmeg scent. The vine begins blooming in August and continues through the fall to the first cold snap. This vine is viable as an evergreen specimen to 30 degrees F. and must be mulched well if utilized as a landscape addition. This passionflower can produce fruit if it is cross-pollinated by a second blooming plant. It is a stellar bee, butterfly and hummingbird plant.

PENSTEMON 'FIREBIRD' (Penstemon 'Firebird')
Firebird is a bright-red blooming perennial with light to white inner color in the trumpet-shaped blooms. This plant is a bee, butterfly and hummingbird magnet. This stunning heritage plant tolerates poor soil but requires good drainage and is viable across USDA zones 6 through 10. The plant blooms both spring and fall and is an excellent evergreen addition in the garden. It can reach 2-3' tall at maturity but should be planted with high shade in the more southern portions of its range. The plant is a vigorous grower and hardy to 15 deg. F.
'RED CASCADE' MINIATURE ROSE X (Rosa x 'Red Cascade')
Red Cascade has been a must-have rose since it was introduced by Ralph Moore in 1976. It is a climber that can reach 12' to 16' that emits a perpetual display of small (1") bright crimson miniature roses that bloom in clusters. The plant can be used as a groundcover , grown on an arbor, or displayed in a hanging container. The natural growth habit of the rose adapts well to growing on a pillar, which allow a splendid display for the almost constant overall blooming. Red Cascade is viable in USDA zones 5b through 10b and should be planted in full sun.

RED BLOOMING CRAPE MYRTLES X 'ARAPAHO', 'CEDAR LANE RED' AND 'DYNAMITE' (Lagerstroemia indicta x )
These three crape myrtles all provide brilliant red blooms from July through September or roughly 120 days of the year. The blooms are perpetual and hold their color well in the heat across USDA ones 6b through 9b. All are drought-tolerant once established, All are deer, pest, and disease resistant as well. All are fast-growing, often growing 3' to 5' in a season. Dynamite often reaches 20' to 30' at maturity while the Arapaho grows to 20', and Cedar Lane seldom reaches 10' when mature. These crape myrtles make a huge statement in the residential landscape creating much needed shade while providing nectar for the bees and butterflies.
'ROYAL RUBY' MINIATURE ROSE (Rosa miniature 'Royal Ruby' )
Since the introduction in early 1970s by Dr. Morey, 'Royal Ruby' has proven to be a stellar addition to the residential garden. This rose produces medium double red blooms throughout the warm season that are 1" to 2" in size. The blooms emit a soft fragrance which is enhances by the morning sun. The plant is a viable perennial in USDA zones 6b through 9b forming a small shrub that seldom reaches more than 18". This hardy specimen can be planted directly into the landscape or reside in an attractive container.
