Lyle, you actually sent me COSMIC SENSATION, but I lost three or four last year and unfortunately it was one of them.

Yes, I still have that seedling. I actually divided it and have 2 clumps of it because it increased so fast. I am planning on using it this season. I didn't have it in the hybridizing area last year; it was in my flower bed across the yard so I didn't use it. It was one of my favorite blooms all season.

Thanks for the comments!

Betty - I can send you a couple fans of Cosmic Sensation with your other daylily if you still want to grow it....LMK

Michele - I hope you get something nice from your seedling It has some of the Luddy Lambertson program in it, should be fun for the purples, and blue eyes.

Peppermint Pinwheel x Pink Aloha - another cross that seems to produce some nice bi-tones

Sure -- I'd love to try it again. Thank you so much, Lyle! Last year three or four of the dark daylilies I had in pots died or got very sickly, and I replaced LARRY'S OBSESSION and LINDA BECK with plants from Maryott's -- but I have to admit that I was absolutely terrible to my daylilies last year -- never sprayed them at all, etc., because I didn't know what to do. But you've educated me now, and things are looking good this year! I've only sprayed once so far, but the foliage looks great. And I need to decide on a liquid fertilizer pretty quick. I never could get my hands on any milorganite, but I do have the Osmocote and Dynamite to put on after I start with a liquid fertilizer. I'll probably just start off with a MiracleGro liquid because it's something I can get my hands on easily.

I have used the half-strength Peters on my seedlings a couple of times now, and I'll do that again within the next week. But I wish our weather would get a little more stable. Every time I think things are going really well we have a dip down near freezing at night and highs in the 50's for a couple of days. We're just coming out of one of those, but it's supposed to be 80 today -- and then another dip expected by Monday or Tuesday. No rain, of course, just cold wind that makes me have to hand water again!

Love that PEPPERMINT PINWHEEL X PINK ALOHA seedling, as you know! And would you believe that yesterday I just found both of those parents through Blue Ridge Daylilies' Ebay store? I've purchased from Bob Selman before and he sends pretty good plants, plus he has just about everything on sale, so believe me I jumped at those DF's! I've been looking for them for the past year, ever since I first saw your beautiful seedlings from that cross. And the bicolored seedling you gave me is looking good so far!

I just got disappointed with BROADWAY ELF and FANTASTIC FRINGE, though. I had found them both at Bell's but there's no way to email or order through their website so I mailed in my second order to them last week and just got the plants on Wednesday -- but they were sold out on both of those, which of course was why I placed the order! But I did get some great Salter plants, which for me are hard to find...
Betty

Betty: these places are listed on the milorganite site as selling it. I'm not sure how big Bakersfield is, but maybe some of these are close to you. Also, if you go here you can type in your zip and it lists other in the area http://www.milorganite.com/sto...

MiracleGro works just fine as a liquid fertilizer, the Peters would be fine as well. It doesn't have to be something ridiculously expensive. We have been using the water soluble all-purpose MG 24-8-16 as well as Jack's 25-5-15 (I think that's the ratio- may be 25-5-10) that came in a 25 lb bag. That's all I could get last year in the bigger bags when I needed it. It's a lot less expensive that way (about $25-30) and we just put it in the MG sprayer just like you would MG. When I start my spray schedule I will just add it to my 15 gallon sprayer with everything else.

Lyle, I can't wait to use it this season. I did try to last year, but since it was out in the full sun the pods kept aborting. This is one cross I will be doing with it which you suggested last year

Lyle, the peppermint pinwheel x pink aloha seedling is drop dead gorgeous.
Blunt sepals, crimped ruffles, wonderful true pink color, green throat blending
into yellow for the three dimensional look is just stunning. And the very
noticeable pale pink edge and eye zone to match the sepals. I would be
thrilled to see one of my babies with a look like that.

Michele, I tried all of those places last fall, but the two Floyd's stores, one of which is pretty close to me, are now Ace Hardware stores and say they've never heard of Milorganite and the other two places no longer exist. Lyle said he got it at Home Depot, but our HD's also have never heard of it. I do think I might be able to get some next fall, though, through Amazon (Can you believe it? That's where I got the Dynamite too), but by the time I got to that point last year it was almost Christmas and I gave up. But I'll try again in the fall and maybe this time I'll be able to get some -- although it might cost a small fortune for shipping!

Thanks for the info about fertilizers, Michele. I guess now that I'm getting older I just tend to do nothing when I'm confronted with a dilemma and not sure what to do, and sometimes I need some prodding because I can do nothing for a long, long time! But this is good info, and I'll check it out in the next week to see what I can get because I know I need to get some very soon.

Those two flowers are gorgeous -- dying to see what they produce!

How odd as I believe Ace here carries it. Is it geographical? Anyhow I get my bags from Home Depot. Any near you Betty?
