Thought I would try something different this year

Very pretty Joanne. I love strawberry pots and have not planted mine this year. Maybe I should get to it:)

Has anyone grown strawberries in a strawberry pot? I planted some alpine strawberries in mine....I'm wondering what to do with them at the end of the season. The pot is glazed pottery, so can't leave it out over the winter. Can I bring the whole thing into our garage and set it out next spring? (Sorry--I know these aren't annuals, but hoping someone can help with the strawberry pot thing....)

Yes, every year with the alpine strawberries. I move them into the veggie garden for the winter.

A neat use of strawberry pots was planting them with cacti and succulents.
I saw this at one of the competition gardens here in Calgary.

Of course I have strawberries in a strawberry pot too. Alpine strawberries started from seed (mid February). There have been berries for a few weeks & they should continue into late September

So you're going to put those in your garden at the end of the season? I'm so afraid of them taking over....even the ones in the pot have set down runners in my herb garden.

really??? never tried them from seed... and the critters usually get them before I do... I give up on trying to grow them

I gave up growing strawberries. The bugs and birds always ate them before we could get one. But I get a lot of wild ones popping up in my yard.

My daughter gave me alpine strawberries to start this past spring and I never started them. How long do the seeds retain their viability?

I'm not sure what the longevity of Strawberry seeds are, but would imagine they would be good for a few years.

The Alpine strawberries don't have runners. The plants and the berries are small and here it is end of October and I still have a bunch of berries.

Here are my big blue Strawberry Pots. There is a mix of succulents, sedum, semps and portulaca.

Holly, what is the name of the plant in the first pot? Those little one's that is hanging down.

some of these are hardy for my area and some are not.

Samantha, Yes it is a Sempervivum commonly called hen & chicks.

I have a couple of pots of Coleus. I have grown coleus in these pots for years. I had a couple of nice inexpensive plastic pots and had Ric use a hole saw to drill six holes about 3inch diameter to make them into a strawberry type pot.
