They'll be fine...Wouldn't leave them in 20 degrees for days, though I'm betting as Karen said, they'd still be fine.

Hi Barbara! The ones I grew flowered first year, but they need to be started early indoors so they'll flower by late summer.
The one I had was Canna indica, also known as Indian shot because the Natives used to use them as ammo. They really are that hard so they must be filed and soaked. But they grow really fast so they'll need to be moved up to at least a 3inch pot before they get outdoors.

I started cannas from seed. I soaked and nicked and soaked again until they started to sprout, ie a little white sprout poked thru the black shell, then I but them in a pot. They didn't get tall enough to bloom, so I brought the pot inside. They took more soaking than morning glories, if that helps.

Andi...When did you start the cannas you soaked? How long did they have to grow, but not bloom before you brought them back inside?

Curious, since I'm growing them for the first time this year and hope to see bloom.

I nicked them, soaked in warm water for 48 hours, planted in (2) 4-cell packs, placed on a heat mat and 4 germinated within 2 days. They are currently about 3 inches high.

what does Bishop's Children look like? I'm only familiar with Bishop's Weed and you couldn't pay me to put it in my garden cause it's such a thug!

I started the seeds in April last year. Maybe they will bloom this year.

Thanks Allison! The brug didn't come with a tag but it looked just like Maya. So it might have been that one. However I don't think it made it this past winter. I brought it out of the cellar but it seems to be rotting away for some reason Sad
