I put up houses but the blackbirds keep scaring everything away. I used to have a number of nesting birds but now the neighbourhood is run by a bunch of bullies I can't get rid of. Grumbling

I have a problem with crows and Jays but manage to have Chickadeed\s and wrens every summer. I dont put up any other nesting things as there isnt room. Robins nest in the same tree every year since we came here5 years ago.

I've had robins, morning doves, wrens, hummingbirds and cardinals all in my garden till the blackbirds came and started nesting here and eating all the other birds young. Now all I have is the blackbirds and can't get rid of them. Anybody have suggestions on how I might? I knock their nests out of the trees when I find them and shoot small cardboard pellets at them ( doesn't kill them but sure scares them momentarily) My feeders are all set for smaller birds and exclude the blackbirds but they eat what falls on the ground. Even the dogs don't scare them off. Confused

I keep my birdboxes up all winter so they have a place to go for the cold nights.
Got them all cleaned last week and now my Bluebirds are getting one ready. They
come back everyear and have at least 3 clutches. But, my Blues
dont like "Bluebird houses" Rolling on the floor laughing I have boxes with large openings and ones with
1/2 open fronts that they use Whistling And they go from box to box ALL summer Rolling on the floor laughing

I have Robins that use my paperbark tree. And last year WE had to fight off some Crows
Crying they got two of the babies before I got them. NOW my dogs know ITS OK to get
the black birds and the Robins are my buddies Lovey dubby They follow me around as I
throw them worms LOL

We are selling our house this year so I am slowly relocating some of my nest boxes
to my neighbors yard . And she said she will take care of them when we leave. Im leaving
her a bag of food and a feeder also Whistling

Bearsearch, Welcome! so happy to see you here!

Perhaps someone on the Bird forum can help with your Blackbird question, if you would like to post it there:

I cleaned out all my birdhouses last week and have seen the chicadees already looking inside. I haven't put out any new ones as I have plenty already around the place. I have found the birds here like the kinds that are mounted so that they are more sturdy and have always ignored any that just hang and sway.

I have birdbird type house but have never seen a bluebird. And then I also have wren/chicadee houses with the small entrance holes. I have a pair of chicadees nesting each spring now for at least seven years and I also have a nesting pair of house wrens.

Well, I suppose that they do or the places offering nesting boxes would not be selling hanging boxes. But they have never picked any hanging boxes here in my garden. Might be different at another garden.

I thought the posts were about chickadee houses. I bought some that hang on a hook in the tree.
