Those crocus I saw in bud last week are still in bud and not open as yet. We need some nice weather but instead they say snow for overnight.

First open crocus of the year-

These are tiny blossoms. Some type of species crocus I bought from Amerucan Meadows, I think. I bought bulbs from so many places I am loosing track of what I bought where!

Those crocuses are nice. I saw some of mine are up but they won't open, it is still cold here.

That was the problem with mine also. The weather is so cold that it took them a long time till they finially opened. And I put in lots of new crocus bulbs last fall that are not even up yet, much less blooming.

Working out in the garden today I see so many places where I could (and should) plant crocus as they would look so nice. Not that I didn't plant crocus last fall, I planted about 1,150. And I thought I did well at that number. But looking around it is apparent to me that I would need 5,000 more (yes 5,000) to plant them in most of the spots I think should have them.

Crocus Sieberi Tricolor. New for me.

Tommies are new for me also. I never had this species crocus before and didn't realise they were so small.

Just a bunch of large flowerred crocus I have had here for years.

Crocus tommasinianus is indeed small and dainty, but if it is happy it will spread and multiply faster than any other crocus. My own patches, which flowered for the first time last spring after being planted the previous fall, are coming up double the size they were last year. In some gardens, it can be quite the glorious weed!

I didn't plant too many tommies as I really had only seen pictures and had no idea they were that small. I have the species. But will get more for this fall plus I also want to get the other colors that Scheepers lists such as Barrs Purplle, Lilac Beauty and Roseus. I have some Ruby Giant that I planted last fall but I didn't get any pictures yet. I flipped when I saw it as I thought it was so stunning. So definatly will be getting more Ruby Guant also.
