Oh, I'll bet it was striking. Cardinal climber here is way too aggressive to plant, but there are a couple of tropical vines with relatively small flowers that might work. Hmmm...thanks for the idea.

Ha! I had so much trouble getting cardinal climber to grow here, it never even occurred to me that it might be invasive somewhere else! Silly me! But yes, mixing small vivid flowers with the big ones looks very nice. I'm trying that with some leftover MGs and Asarinas in a pot next to a chain link fence. May not work this time because the plants are a bit sad looking. Even it it doesn't work this year, I think I'll try this again next year with some of the big blue Heavenly Blue MGs and some pink Asarina.

I have lots of growth but no blossoms yet!

I spotted a bloom trying to happen on one of my white Cup & Saucers this morning! Surprised me because I thought the purple ones would bloom first; they're much bigger.

You've done much better than me. Mine all died. Post a pic when it blooms if you can.

Ok, just for you I braved the vicious swarming bugs out there and took a pic of the white one. Those are morning glory leaves next to it.

Grrrrrr.......

These are photos of a white cup and saucer and a purple one. The plants are growing in identical containers right next to each other. See how the foliage on the white plant is a totally different color from the foliage on the purple plant? It's not that dramatic when they're seedlings, but it's still very noticeable.

Great pics. I did notice when growing mine indoors that one of them that was from the white seed envelope had a purple tinge to the foliage which made me believe it was probably going to be a purple. Also the vine itself looked different in color here.

I saved my remaining seeds and will try again next year but this time, I will direct sow them and see what happens.

Now, what is that bug?

That is Leptoglossus clypealus, aka "Western leaf-footed bug," aka "stink bug," aka "Aaaaakkkkk! Get it out of my house!"
