I couldn't believe they got here this morning. I figured atleast Tuesday at the earliest.. I swear, they look like I walked out back and shook the soil off. I've got them soaking and will plant them tomorrow. I didn't sleep last night so today wasn't a good working day. I've had a sinus infection for 10 days now and last night I got a nose bleed, too.(I have these frequently) Between the two, I couldn't get comfortable. Tomorrow will be better.

I moved a few pots around today trying to get my hybridizing area better organized. Since I repottted most all plants last fall, I can't find anything so it's turned into a good time to move everything around. I'm grouping my pots by color and today I put all the big eyed group together. I have a lot of plants with big eyes!!!! Then I'll have red group, purple group, and pastel group which will include white, pink, yellow, peach&melon, lavender and most anything else I don't know what to do with. These will mostly be hybrids. I will have a few seedlings in these groups but most seedlings will be in seperate groups.

Any comments are appreciated, I need all the help I can get!

Blessings, Mona

Well, that's a good start grouping by color. I have mine sort of that way right now with a little tweaking.
Spiders/UFs in one bed divided into dips and tets and alphabetical. The next bed I have reds, purples, pinks, then creams, also a few doubles that will probably be used for the shows. These should have been in alphabetical order by color but for some I didn't. The next bed is all my eyed daylilies and these are all in alphabetical order and at the end of these is my toothy things. The next bed has the small/mini dips, the patterns, and then just a mixture of anything that I got after the other beds had already been finished.

My sale plants are in alphabetical order as well. It makes it easier to find everything if it is.

Spring arrived with such a "bang" last month that I was thinking about moving up my May to mid-May shipping dates for my auction purchases. But, for the last couple of weeks temperatures have been much more seasonal with daytime highs in the 50's, but many of the night time temps are at freezing or even down into the mid 20's. So for now, I am going to leave things as they are.

And of course, I wasn't going to buy any more for now, and just won another one.... Ohhhh, I am so bad! ~Jan

Thanks everyone!! It's so nice to get great plants and I've hit the jackpot this year. They have all been great!

Michele, I haven't thought about the alpha order, but that's a great idea. Then I'd know about where to look for each plant. wonderful. I'm sure they wont be perfect but if I just stay within the letter, that'll help. Nows the time for me to do this since I'm having to move them all anyway.

Thanks and here's to a great Spring day for everyone. Mona

Mine are just organized by letter. That can get to be too time consuming trying to alphabetize and then also alphabetize again in each letter.

Well, all of James plants are potted into 7 gallon pots except for 2. I decided since I didn't have but 2 5gal size that I'd just grit my teeth and use 7's. Those great big plants should be very happy with all the soil that's in their pots! I toted one of the big pots to it's new site and I decided right quick that I'd get the two wheeler and a bungi strap and roll the rest. I had to smooth the mulch back out but that's all it did to lean the pots over a little.

I have 9 more plants to get and that's it for me for Spring. I think they should be here in 2 weeks. I'm glad that I don't have many more. I'm ready to start selling and get my stock down to a very manageable size. I've realized that there is only ONE of me and me can only do so much.

Blessings,Mona

I'm expecting 3 more, but I won't get those until May because 2 are coming from New York and the other from Canada.

Start selling, make that garden support itself. That's what I do, and right now my irises are supporting my daylily habit lol.

Recieved my plants from Ann Bell yesterday and both were very nice plants along with a 2012 gift plant. All were her introductions and they are now in the new display area.

I have my hybridizing beds planted by program (tet polys, dip polys, UF doubles, etc) and then alpha by letter within the program. It surely helps to have them close when they're all blooming and one is trying to get the pollen dabbed before it gets too hot. It also helps me to remember where I want to use that plant. Some, like the ones I'm using to increase bud count/branching aren't always obvious to the program otherwise and when the pollen fever hits I forget them.

Not from the lily auction, but I have to crow about the order I rec'd from Jamie Gossard yesterday. I ordered his new BLUE VIPER and got a nice looking fan of it that looks like it's about to split into three as well as a DF of his new TRIPPED OUT (Lyle, take note. It's a tet pattern) and a super clump of about 9 fans of MYSTIC JELLYFISH. I know Jamie and have traded plants with him before but this was my first purchase. It won't be the last!

I had a first purchase delivered from Irene on the Lily Auction yesterday too. I bought 4F of WHICH WAY (take note again Lyle) and she sent a DF of TROPICAL JEWELL as a bonus. Good looking plants and I was amazed how fast they got here.

Earlier this spring I've gotten nice orders and bonuses from Floyd Cove, Luddy Lambertson and James Townsend (JRT from the LA) but THE BEST plants this year were from Lyle. I want to grow them like he does. Wow.

I received my box from Ann also, but mine were free ROFL. We traded some plants. I also got Grandma's Ruffled Curtains and Diamond Diva. She was also nice enough to send me a fan of Caesar Augustus after I lost mine to rot.

She also got a new iris garden from me. I sent her a bunch of intermediates. I think that friends just can't be beat.

Trading with friends is a great way to get newer introductions without spending big bucks. Dot and I have traded for a few years now. This year we each got three fans of certain plants we received, so we sent one of those fans to the other person. I was able to Increase my hybridizing gene pool for no extra money. I also have a local friend who buys newer daylilies and we trade every year. Gardening friends are the best!

Lyle and I have traded and I traded with another person on DG. Some people don't want anything in return though and I feel like I should send them something but they are probably just out of room. Yes gardening friends are so wonderful.

Do we have a trading post here?

I am late to the game of adding things to the lily auction, although I might put a few newer intros up. I am just making my list of things that I lined out and pricing them, for locals etc, and will post to the bulletin board.

I did a great trade fall of 2010 with friends that I know have never had rust (I haven't) and might entertain the idea again.

Ann, what a great idea you and your friend did!
