Me too, Mona. I still get excited seeing them each year, even though I have
seen the same ones for years. You are a flower aficionado, as are we all.
Hey, did I spell that word right?

You got me Shirlee. If it isn't Southern, I can't spell it.

If you really love Iris, trip over to the Iris portion of this site. I thought my head would explode when I went there about a week ago. There are colors in Iris that daylilies just can not do. Plus to me Iris are Royal and they have the colors to prove it. I can only handle a little at a time because it makes me want to buy the new Iris and I just can't. Even if I did, I don't have any beds ready to plant iris in and they don't like pots. Or not my pots anyway.

Our Dot has some of the most beautifu Iris I've seen. She has alot going on in her garden!!!

I have looked at some of those Mona. That's why I drool over iris. The new or newer ones
are simply gorgeous. Need to go look again. Haven't been there since winter, I think.
There are so many different plants to see on this site.

I sure know what you mean Mona about not having enough time.

I have a bunch of photos left to post, but will probably do that
tomorrow. Been trying to catch up on all the posts, and going
back and forth, I confused myself as to where I saw some flowers
I wanted to add to my list. There are lots of posts to catch up on.

I bet it gets really wild during daylily bloom season. This will be
my first year to see that.

Hi Michele, I have been looking for Josephine and Crystal Fountain, but
may have to order them online to get them. Belle of Woking was much
prettier last year. I added last year's photo to the data base. Guess it is having an off year.

Everything is so darn neat, Shirlee! Impressive!

So pray tell, are the new seedling beds NEW or were there discarded seedlings in their before?

What do you do to amend your soil before planting?

Love your brickwork too! Neat, neat, neat!

Thumbs up

Thank you Cindy, as you can see there is much work ahead.

Bobbie, the NEW beds are the ones that Hubby tilled up this year. Unfortunately,
with so many seedlings to plant, these beds were not amended, but I will add
in the amendments later. I use sand, manure, leaf compost, and I really like
the pine bark soil conditioner to put on top when I can find it. The older seedling beds had
all these amendments added before planting. We sometimes add leaf compost
as a top dressing, and then mulch with pine bark.

The bed at the deck is 71 x 6 feet. The new curved one is 64 x 6 feet.

I did the brick work you see in that last picture. I look at it now, and can't believe
I did that. Don't think I could handle that now.

Anywho, it is now time to add pine bark mulch in all places ready for it.

I am now EVEN MORE IMPRESSED! You are a pro!

Nothing like improving the soil when there is a fresh bed, but I too have top dressed as needed. Somehow from what I have seen, I have a feeling that your soil is rather nice to begin with. Me? pure sand over granite ledge. The place was vacant for 50 yrs and too much wild grew. The previous owners brought in a backhoe and dug out everything, including years of leaf mulch. Back to subsoil sand. I have to bring in truckloads of compost! Won't plant a garden without it. 10 inches when I can. The worms and mother nature do the rest.

Shirlee, do mind saying where you live??? City and State, or State will do. I'm trying to figure out how I can do a tour Green Grin! Green Grin! Green Grin! This green grin is envy, pure and simple. I've never seen a garden equal. Small ones that were elegant but never this size except on I toured below Mobile Ala years ago. It was a privately owned but volunteer ran garden. Yours is approaching it's equal. Wow. Beautiful and now for pictures of daylilies in the beds in bloom??? Thanks for sharing, Mona

No, Bobbie, I am definitely not a pro. I knew nothing about laying brick when I did that.
That is why it amazes me now. Really hard work too.

This soil is pretty good, well, for certain things. I will see how these seedlings grow,
and if they are okay then just top dress. If they need some help, I will dig in the
amendments around them. Since the beds are new, I have to wait and find out.
Haven't even checked the pH yet.

Also, know that there is a lot of ugly here. We don't tend to everything. Plus it
does not look like much without newly applied mulch.

Mona, I don't think wide shots of daylilies in bloom is attractive in my garden. Individual
shots yes. It is really about placement. I think I need all in a row of the
same color to look good. Have seen some in other persons daylily beds
that look great, but not so much here.

So because of this, I just take daylily closeup photos.
